Yesterday, after a lovely time in Town, running errands, having lunch & shopping, we came home feeling very good. I got the belt for the lawn mower& had come up to the house to get it for Ron to put on. I had Bo on a lead to take him to graze, a go cup of iced coffee & the belt. I happened to glance over at Mom's to see if she was around-
She was lying on the cement. My heart went thud. I yelled for Ron to come. She had propped herself up against the post of her new carport & was just sitting there, very still. I wrapped Bo's lead around the nearest tree & ran to call the ambulance.
She had tripped & fallen, banging her head, breaking her R wrist & cracking her L elbow. She thinks she was down about 15 minutes before I spotted her.
We went by ambulance to hospital, which is 50 minutes away. She was alert & responding well. I rode with her. Ron followed a bit later after tending to the animals.
She was x-rayed immedialetly & yes, the wrist is broken- both bones. She is, of course, right handed. We waited for the bone Dr to get there- these things always happen on the weekend!
So, Mom is ok, sore & tired today, but a brave lady. I helped her dress & combed her hair. Her left elbow has a crack, but is useable, carefully.
She figures if she had fallen down south she may have been there 3 days before help showed up- after phone calls from myself & my sister, who faxed her daily to be sure she was ok. Knowing Mom she would have gotten herself up after a bit & got herself to help.
We are very glad she is here. She will be fine, after healing. She is very healthy & well. The Dr is very good.
The lesson here is from one minute to the next life can take a very different turn. Never take your loved one for granted. Every day is a gift to be savored & appreciated to the fullest.
Mom is ok- I keep telling myself that. Maybe in a week or two my heart will stop thudding.

Ohhh how scary! I'm glad she's alright. And I'm very glad that you were there for her. How scary for both of you!
What a scare, once my grandma fell down on the sidewalk while my Mom & I were waiting in the car.. it was terrifying to watch.. it happened so fast yet seemed in slow motion!! So glad you're there to take care of her!! *hugs*
How scary, Su!
I'm glad she's doing well and that you were there to help her...quick!
OMG, that's horrible! SO glad you guys were there to help her, and so glad the injuries were not worse! (Although broken bones are nothing to sneeze at, and take way too long to heal!) You really do come from strong stock -- I can't believe she was just sitting there! I would have been writhing around on the ground, weeping or screaming bloody murder! (Well, maybe not, but she's still one tough lady!)
Sometimes I wish we could dress our kids and parents in rubber suits so when they fall, they'd just bounce! They'd probably be a bit sticky in the summer, though...
Hugs to the whole family,
Lisa :)
I'm sorry. I know that must have been frightening for you. I've experienced the same with my own Mom. I'm glad you were there for her and hope that she will have a full recovery.
I am so glad she is here with you. With the heat in the South we could have lost her. Send her our warm wishes of a speedy recovery.
I finally made it here to read your journal. What a scare! I'm so glad your Mom is here with you, it's the best situation for everyone. Take care of Mom. xoxoxox Donna
