Delusions of grandeur.

We cannot partake in Super-Fun Pool Time today since cats and dogs are pouring from the sky in a most watery form, so I'll use this time to document the pool games we play when we are able to jump into the watery abyss.

First, a word about our Super-Fun Pool:

Our pool is of the Easy-Set variety made by Intex.  It is four feet tall with a diameter of eighteen feet and it is, by far, the largest pool we've owned.   The kids LOVE it.  (Hell, I love it!)  We spend the summer days (the sunny, dry ones at least) out in that pool and I must admit it is rather awesome.  If you don't have an inground pool and can afford a couple hundred bucks to keep your family entertained all summer long, I totally recommend this type of pool.

There are very few rules we enforce religiously when we swim.  One of those rules is that if your name is Samantha and you are four-years old, you MUST swim with a pool floatie AND a buddy (preferably a buddy named Mom or dad).  The other rule was taken from a sign I saw at a friend's house which stated:

"We don't swim in your toilet; please don't pee in our pool."  (Can I get an Amen, people?)

Most swim days, I pipe the Summer Playlist Extraordinaire out the kitchen windows.  What summer playlist would be complete without the theme from Jaws?  Every time they hear that legendary Duh-Nuh start, my girls stop everything and yell "Shark"!  Then, of course, I have to try to catch them until the next song begins.  Great exercise, that.

Sometimes we imitate Tom Hanks and chase a volleyball across the pool while calling:

"Wilson!  Wilson, I'm SORRY!!"

Oh, but their favorite Super-Fun Pool Time Game of all is when mommy jumps up and down with a big inner tube in the center of the pool and makes some totally gnarly waves.  This game has been dubbed Tsunami Mommy.  As I am not a tiny mommy, it is definitely a sight to behold.

Bitchin', dude.

(Don't look at me like that.  What?!  Well, what do YOU do in the pool?)

Edit:  Because Rebecca asked for a picture of Super-Fun Pool, here it is as seen from the second floor of the house.  I'm fairly certain we could park both cars in it.  What do you think?

Edited to change title.  I think someone may have gotten the idea that I posted a pic of a nude soap shower.  (I wouldn't subject you people to that, trust me.)

I wanna come float on the tsunami mommy waves!  I give my 3 big ones "dolphin rides" up and down the length of the pool - it is fine exercise, sadly about all I get as I am highly allergic to all forms of it.  There's enough summer left...I'm packing the kids up and we'll be there tomorrow, 'kay?  (I have your address, I have your address, nanny, nanny, boo boo)

Oh see now I want one of those pools. Will you post a picture?  I am guessing your grass dies under that pool?  How hard is it to keep clean and germ free?   How do you keep mosquitoes out?

It sounds like a bunch of fun.  I am glad that you all can do this and have a good time.  You are a fun mommy Erika!

We use pool shock in it and run the filter often, B.  We also have a surface skimmer (you can see it hanging over the edge in the lower right part of the pool) that gets all the mucky things (i.e. leaves and bugs) off the top of the water and a pole skimmer that we use to get anything that drops in and sinks to the bottom.

Yes, we must say goodbye to the grass in that 18 foot patch every summer, but when we close the pool for the season, we put down grass seed that germinates in about a week and there are no signs of Pool Circle by three weeks.   :)

Super Fun Pool looks super fun!  Our pool games include:

Asking Mommy To Please Get In--Sorry, not gunna happen.

Marco Polo--Mommy is the guy who make sure nobody's cheating when "it" yells "fish out of water!"

Asking Mommy To Please PLEASE Get In--Sorry, not gunna happen.

Asking Dad To Throw Us Across The Pool--Our Super Fun Pool is 11'x33', Mega Daddy is much bigger than Tsunami Mommy and Not Getting In The Pool Mommy usually has several heart attacks during this game.

Wasp Killer--If a wasp comes anywhere near the pool, all kids freak and begin slapping the water with various pool toys even though the Intended Wasp Victim has left already.

Risking Skin Cancer--After swimming, all kids like to get nekkid and lie on their towels in the sun.  All I can say is, it's a good thing there's a house between the pool and the road or someone might get the wrong idea.

Erika, I'm totally getting one of those as soon as we get our backyard set up!  Right now, we have one but it only has an 8' diameter.

Can't make mommy waves in it.

Can I come over?  I promise I will not pee in it.

Our pool fun consists of yelling "GET OUTTA THERE!" at the dogs in the pool, removing dog fur from the pool, and watching cats fall in the pool.  Children in the pool?  Not so much around here.

Dood...my inlaws are coming down next week.  I just may stow away when they leave and then make them drive by your house on the way home.

They don't even have to stop.  Tuck n' roll, baby.

I would love one of those if I didn't think I would have to spend all day every day outside in it.  I would also have to keep getting all the junk from the walnut trees out of the pool.

We had out first day of swim lessons.  They gave up trying to teach Blaine after about a minute.  The kid is a natural.  He was diving after toys on the bottom in about 2.5 feet of water.  Keep in mind he is 3 and half years old.  He was scaring the lifeguard teaching him.  I am going to have to go buy some of those things now.  He had a great time.   Can't wait for tomorrow.
