The other day my husband came home with some stuff he found. He shops anywhere he can save a dime or two. I think this night he stopped by GoodWill. Anyway, he finds a 2004 desk calendar that shows different types of Origami (Japanese paper folding).
He said, "I found this and thought it might be fun for Bree (our 5 year old) to do". I kind of rolled my eyes at first, thinking "Yeah that is just what a 5 year old wants to do". Well I didn't feel well that night and I couldn't sleep. So I sat down at the kitchen table and started flipping thru this calendar. I thought "Hmmm.... that looks pretty neat (it was a New Years Crown), I think I will try it". Oh what fun I had.....
I just found myself engrossed in this paper folding technique. It was so cool what things can turn out, BY FOLDING PAPER!!!
I am not very good, so there is still work and practice to do. But I am having fun. Sad huh?!?!
I used to scrapbook and I have always LOVED it, but with 3 kids, it's just not something I have time for right now. It takes 2 hours just to get all my "stuff for scrapbooking" set up and then about that long to put it away. So I just don't bother for now. I always found scrapbooking to be a stress reliever. I would just get so engrossed in the page I was working on and the memories from pictures, that I could sit and do it for hours on end. I could forget about my problems for a little while and do something productive at the same time. I haven't been able to have that outlet for about 5 years.
Somehow, this filled that void. I don't know why, I don't understand how. But I get so focused on folding the paper and following the directions that it kind of has that same stress reliever I found in scrapbooking. But it only takes a minute to set up and clean up, because it's only a piece of paper.
I am wierd huh???
So here is a picture of the few things I have done. They are 3D and so cool; although not perfect. I still have to work on the creases and stuff.
Starting at the top and going clockwise: Multi-colored Box, Orange Crane (it's hard to tell since the picture is taken from the top), Pink Butterfly, Green Lady bug (I know, it doesn't really look like one, but that is what it is called), Foxes Face (beside teh butterfly), a green dog, the crown (the first one I did), and a green swan.

Here is another view of them.... maybe you can tell a little better.
