Most of the prep work is done for our unit on "summer," so I kicked things off with these number suns! They were a big hit with my daughter. When we got to the sun with 5 rays, she grabbed her sunglasses, and said, "It's so bright!"
These were the directions from the Mailbox Magazine's Preschool Superbook (math center): Label five large yellow circles (suns) with the numbers 1 to 5 and cut out 15 yellow strips (rays). Have youngsters place the corresponding number of rays around each sun.
We just got back into town and I wanted minimal mess, so I opted for Post-Its instead of the yellow strips (which my girl would probably want to glue - any excuse to bust out the glue!). It takes a while to get back into the groove of things after spending time away from home, so I am trying to start with the least mess. Plus, the summer heat has kicked up a few notches...which means I move more slowly than usual!
