Why boys typically wear blue and girls pink?
It has everything to do with ancient times. People used to believe that some colors could ward off evil spirits that hung around infants bed or room.
Murex shells shells were the only way to produce the color. Therefore, the cloth was very expensive. Purple was reserved for royalty or for religious ceremony.
Blue was associated with heaven, heavenly spirits, and gods. Boys were thought of as more valuable so they were clothed in this color. This in due partially to the fact that purple was too expensive and rare. (Blue was made by Woad)
Girls on the other hand were not an asset but a burden. They didn't have any color associated with them. They were mostly clothed in black.
Some think that during the middle ages girls started wearing pink. They don't know why.
Others think it came from World War II. The Nazis made homosexuals wear an upside down pink triangle. It is theorised that this put a feminine stamp on pink.
We know that some men tried to bring pink back to heterosexual men in the 80's. I am a little glad that didn't last. ;)

Hmm. As far as I'm aware, there was a period as well where red was the masculine color and blue was feminine, as seen in red being the color of the sun, which is a male figure. ;)
I never learned about that Christie. Just about these two particular colors.
Hehehehe, yeah gotta agree with you- my UBER manly man just doesn't look good in pink! LOL
In Ken Follet's books Pillars or the Earth and World Without End, this is talked about , and the book take place during the middle ages. I can't remember all the details, but this is very interesting. I love history!
