Last Thursday, we packed up and went on our mini vacation, camping.
It was our oldest 2nd time and our youngest first time to go camping. Our oldest was only 11 months old when he went the first time so he really doesn't remember going.
We used to go camping every year up until 5 years ago when we lost our dog sitter.
This year we decided to give it a try and go camping at a state park 1/2 hour away. It was really fun.
We were planning on tenting and our neighbor even offered us their tent but then rain decided to play with us again (our last camping trip consisted of nothing but rain) and my sister and brother in law offered their pop up camper for us to use.
The first night we had enough time to unload and get a campfire going before it got dark. It was so nice to sit around a campfire again.
The second day, after running home to let the dogs out, we decided to go hiking after lunch. We knew there was a chance of rain and thought what a good thing to do in the rain.
We chose to hike up the mountain to outlook point. The boys did well most of the way up. Mommy did well most of the way up too, however she was really doubting the last 1/10 of a mile or so. Once we got to the top it was worth it and by this time it was raining pretty good, so we didn't want to spend too long at the top since we had to walk back down the trail and didn't want it to get too slippery.
We got to the bottom and decided to do the little over a mile nature trail. It was a flat trail and very easy to do. Thankfully with the tree coverage we didn't get too wet until about half way through when we had to pull out the rain coats.
We got back to camp and it was still raining pretty good, so I taught the kids how to play uno, triominos and war while daddy rested (he hates to play games).
We had a lot of fun but Levi won all the games.
It finally stopped raining so we were able to enjoy a bit of the campsite while we dried out.
Saturday after my two hour shift at work and letting the puppies out, we got to enjoy the beach and the cold lake water, brrrr. The kids didn't want to come out of the lake despite their blue lips.
We did build a sand castle with a moat. The boys had lots of fun.
We were a little nervous about the boys being near the campfire but they did really well. They even helped daddy build the fire too.
We had such a great time that we are planning on going again in September for a weekend. We even bought ourselves a bigger tent too.

Glad everyone had fun. I would love to go camping. The girls wouldn't do well "roughing" it. They have a hard time going without tv for a week during "Turn off TV week" lol
