Last week I was working frantically to finish Nafeeza's bedroom before my husband came home for our anniversary. Well, he came home early and I hadn't quite finished. But it is done now and here's the story.
Nafeeza had pulled the wallpaper off some of the walls (it was a very poor job of wallpapering, it was peeling away). But as pay day hadn't come, I raided the change jug to find some money to buy some paint. I got a gallon of "shy violet" which Nafeeza had picked out as her color. She loved going through the color cards at Lowe's.
After peeling off the vinyl top of the wallpaper, I was left with the paper backing. Using a srayer that I have used to water my gardens and some vinegar/water, I sprayed the walls down. The paper peeled right off! I didn't even need a scrapper!
I washed the walls and here's what I was left with...

Plain, white walls.
So, I grabbed up the gallon of paint and roller and brushes and started painting it a very nice shade of violet.

Yeah, that picture doesn't do it justice. Suffice to say, it was beautiful.
But, if you know me, you know I cannot stop with simple paint on the walls. I have to add a little something. I asked Nafeeza what she liked and she said flowers and butterflies. Flowers and butterflies it is!
While the violet dried overnight, I made some stencils out of posterboard. The next day, I traced the stencils onto the wall very lightly with pencil. I had about 20 tubes of craft paint, and after a trip to Walmart with $4.00, I got 6 more tubes of craft paint.
I started filling in the pencil markings (very tedious but I loved every minute of it!).

We have butterflies!

We have some flowers!
I took a break for the night. The next day I was at it again, painting more flowers and butterflies.

I also made a stencil for dragonflies so I traced those onto the walls and got back to painting.

After all the stencils and painting and a couple of days of sleeping on the sofa (Nafeeza was sleeping in my room because I didn't want her to mess up the paint, so I got to sleep on the sofa) the room was ready for it's occupant!

(That butterfly to the right of the door that looks a little shiny, really is shiny... some of the colors weren't showing up well as they were dark and sort of blended a bit with the black of the butterfly body, so I painted over the color just a little with glitter paint! She has a few sparkly flowers and butterflies).

Well, after all that, I had to paint her dresser to match her room! So I sanded it down and painted it bright white and then the door inserts I painted to match her walls, "shy violet."

I had so much fun painting her room! I cannot wait to paint the next room. Now, do I move onto the boys' bedroom or my dining room? LOL
Hope you enjoyed the tour of Nafeeza's new bedroom. I had a lot of fun painting it and she simply loves the new room. When my husband came home the first thing she said was, "Daddy! Mommy paint my room! Come see!" When they got in there, she was jumping for joy and pointing over every butterfly and flower. When her big brother Ascher came in, he started to touch the walls and she ran over to him, grabbed his hand and said, "NO BUBBA! No touch the walls!" She is too cute!

Thanks! I had such a great time doing her room. And I am really happy with how it turned out. Even my husband likes it and he was afraid it was going to be a "girly girl" room. LOL
(He wants a little tom boy but I told him he already has two sons, let me enjoy the pink and purple and girl stuff for awhile. LOL)
Sons are such a blessing, but there's something special about having a daughter...I guess as they grow older, you can both relate so well.
You did a WONDERFUL room Barb, it feels so darn good too, doesn't it that she loves it so much?
Can't wait for the next one!
Thank you so much. I love my sons so much, and there is always something special with the firstborn, but the first daughter. I think you are right, it's because we can relate so well with a girl.
I love that she loves her room. She plays in there now and I have gone in and seen her just looking at the walls and trying to pet the butterflies. LOL
I can't wait to hear what the boys want for their room! This should be interesting. LOL
Great job!!!! I'm sure Nafeeza loves it. What a special girl to have such a creative Mommy :).
Thank you! I love the color for the walls, it is just perfect, not too light, not too dark. Now if only my boys are as cooperative when picking the colors for their bedroom. LOL
