I did... But it took me a while.

My mother sent me the first one when it first came out in paperback.  I wasn't sure why.  I mean it was obviously meant as a kids' book.  I have to admit I kind of looked down on it for that.  I read the first chapter or so and then passed it along to my pre-teen niece who was just the right age for it.

Then my husband started reading them in the book store when they were up to the fourth or fifth book.  I think he read most of them just standing around waiting for buses before he actually started buying them.

So they're extremely popular books, everybody's reading them, I decided to give them a try.  And I loved them!  They started off kind of slow, in my opinion, but what I like about J.K. Rowling's writing is that she writes to the level that the kids in her book should be.  That's very accessible to children.  I think it really helps them to relate to the characters and keep them interested in reading.

My favourite of the series is still "The Prisoner of Azkaban" though.  I think it's the most well written, and I like the story.  The characters are still learning their way and they don't have some of the annoying traits that they had in the first two books, or haven't developed some of the annoying traits that they'll have in the last two books.

I thought Lupin was not only a great character, but a great teacher.  The relationship he had with Harry and his friends, and what he could tell them about Harry's parents, was very touching.

I loved the whole series.  I was terribly disappointed by the most recent movie and reread the book to make sure it really was good.

I think my favorite would have to have been The ORder of the Phoenix.  I know it was my favorite movie!
