2009 Tax Free Weekend Events

Alabama- August 7-9

Applies to:

  • Clothing under $100
    School supplies under $50
    Books under $30
    Computers/computer equipment under $750

Connecticut- August 15-22

Applies to:

  • Clothing under $300
  • Shoes under $300

Florida-

Unfortunately, the state of Florida will not be offering its usual sales tax free week during 2009. In the past, the sales tax holiday was voted upon in the state legislature, but the measure was not brought up for a vote this year. Should the state of Florida decide to offer a sales tax free week again in 2010, this site will be updated to include those dates.


Georgia-
July 30- Aug 2

Applies to:

  • Clothing under $100
  • Computers/computer equipment under $1500
  • School supplies under $20


Iowa-
August 7-8

Applies to:

  • Clothing under $100
  • Shoes under $100


Louisiana-
August 7-8

Applies to:

  • Purchases under $2,500
  • Excludes the purchase of taxable services, automobiles, and meals


Maryland- 

The State of Maryland will reintroduce its annual tax free shopping event in 2010, beginning on Aug. 8, 2010, and ending on Aug. 14, 2010.

In the meantime, consider shopping during tax-free week in Washington, D.C. or Virginia.


Mississippi- July 31- August 1

Applies to:

  • Clothing under $100
  • Shoes under $100

Missouri- August 7-9

Applies to:

  • Clothing under $100
  • School supplies under $50
  • Computer software under $350
  • Computers/computer equipment under $3,500
  • Note: Some cities and counties in Missouri elect not to participate.


New Mexico- August 7-9

Applies to:

  • All clothing and shoes under $100
  • School supplies under $15
  • Computers under $1,000
  • Computer equipment under $500


New York- Shoppers are now exempt from the 4% state sales tax 365 days per year.

Applies to:

  • Clothing under $110
  • Shoes under $110


North Carolina-
August 7-9

Applies to:

  • Clothing, footwear, and school supplies under $100
  • Sports and recreation equipment under $50
  • Computers under $3,500
  • Computer equipment under $250


Oklahoma-
August 7-9

Applies to:

  • Clothing and shoes
  • Priced under $100


South Carolina-
August 7-9

Applies to:

  • Clothing
  • Accessories
  • Footwear
  • School supplies
  • Computers
  • Computer equipment


Tennessee-
August 7-9

Applies to:

  • Clothing under $100
  • School supplies under $100
  • Computers under $1500


Texas-
August 21-23

Applies to:

  • Clothing and footwear under $100
  • Includes backpacks under $100 for elementary and secondary students
  • Includes layaway items


Vermont- 

Unfortunately, the state of Vermont has not planned a tax holiday for shoppers during 2009. Should they choose to continue their previous tax holiday program in the future, this site will be updated with that information.


Virginia-
August 7-9

  • Clothing and footwear under $100
  • School supplies under $20


Washington D.C.-
August 1-9

Applies to:

  • Clothing under $100
  • Accessories under $100
  • Shoes under $100
  • School supplies under $100
  • Includes layaway items



I gathered this information from here, hopefully it is correct! Best of luck this shopping season- and remember, every teacher appreciates extra supplies! Spend an extra $10 on pencils and paper for a classroom stash- your child's teacher will be ever gracious!

Nebraska has never had one, but fortunately it's a short trip to Iowa. Thanks for posting this, Carmin. I was just thinking it was about time to figure this info out.
