ALG's Journal

You will be assimilated...

So, Jo-Ann's was having a 50% off sale on flannel and blizzard fleece.   I had a 10% coupon and a gift certificate that I forgot I had.     So I bought some snuggle flannel prints and solid cozy flannel.  And some blizzard fleece.  I wish I could have found cotton fleece but they didn't have any just synthetics, so I used the polyester blizzard fleece as a breathable water barrier.

I wanted to use them as underpads for before the birth, during the birth, after the birth, and as baby mats too.     I hope to get a lot of mileage out of them to make up for all the work ;)

So my construction changed to bottom layer flannel, middle layer fleece, top split layer of flannel print(so they can be stuffed with as much absorbancy as I like with whatever material I want) .     They are all 27 x 27 more or less, two of each pattern, with backings of blue, red, or green.   Two of them are reversible -- just as an experiment.    I made a dozen altogether and it took me a week -- and I don't dare count how many hours.   (The 9th one I made I stitched updside down and  had to rip the whole thing appart so its gimpy and smaller than the rest.  I was so mad!)     They are crude, flawed, and have crooked seams.  Oh well, I'm proud of myself anyway.

The material cost $64 including thread, however, I had a $25 gift certificate so they really only cost me $39.

All the prints closeup (I made two of each):

And the reversible one (which didn't come out as planned but I was just experimenting)

I just can't bring myself to buy the disposables in the home birth kit.    Just the thought of having disposable pads with goodness knows what in them sticking to my behind or getting a rash from it just makes me cringe.
