I'm sure that not very many people will even read this journal, I'm not really one of the "popular" moms on this site but I think popularity is overrated anyway! However, I believe that this is a legitimate question. What is the point? We are all moms on this site and yet some of us seem to have this morbid need to post on things that are just plain disturbing. I come on Cafemom to relax, to chat with my friends, to give and receive advice. Perhaps I am in the minority in that regard. So I ask "What is the point?" Why do you come on Cafemom? Is it to ask advice? To hang out with friends? To chat? Or to post about death, dismemberment and suffering?
What makes you think that I need to know how this woman dismembered her baby? Why do I need to know that she ate parts of him? WHY? Ok, maybe I'm being egocentric, after all, this site isn't about me. This site is about moms. So, let me ask you WHY? Why do you NEED to share this news with other moms? Some of us have our own issues that we are trying to deal with, depression maybe, and don't want or need to see that kind of "news".
I opened a post yesterday about this dismemberment. I didn't even read it all because I don't want that swimming around in my head. Maybe it's just me but one would think that such a post would say something in the title about dismemberment. Maybe then crazies like me who don't want their head filled with that sort of trash would just avoid the post. Maybe... But no, lets put something on it that could be any number of things, let's say "Should CPS have been involved" This title could be any number of things. I frequently respond to these because, generally, it isn't about someone dismembering their child! I should have known better. It does seem that many of us seem to enjoy the macabre. I should have known.
I once opened a post "about CIO" you can understand that I use quotes because that is not at all what the post was about. This particular post was about a child being left in his car seat in his crib for 8 days until he died. Yup, I'm one of those crazies that cried... I cried and cried and cried because I can't get that out of my head, even now. I should have known. Why would I think that a post was really about CIO. Some people consider CIO in and of itself to be abuse, whatever, we won't get into that debate here.
My point is, if you NEED to post about something gruesome and macabre at least put what it's REALLY about in the title!
Rant over!
