I have encountered a major setback with my house.
The light company required a meter inspection before turning on the power to my new home, and the house failed the inspection. There were a few minor problems that need to be fixed by my landlord, and several major issues that a licensed electrian must fix, the metal pole connected to the meter box outside going up through the roof must be replaced, the outlets around the cabinets need to be grounded, a few wires in the breaker box have to be replaced, and a smoke detector must be installed. After the repairs are done the city will have to comeback to reinspect, and once approved they will call Entergy to turn on the electricity.
So, it looks like I will not be able to move into my house until at least next week, depending on how fast my landlord makes the repairs.
My landlord said that it was his wife's dream to have rent houses as her retirement, so he bought her thirteen homes to fix up and rent out. He told me that his wife handles all the business with the rent houses, and she took a turn for the worse. In his words, "She had a good day last week, jump the gun two weeks ahead of schedule, and rented out three houses to people all moving in on August 1st. Now, I can not get any sense out of her".
His wife is suffering from cystic fibrosis, and he says that he has no clue as to what a landlord is supposed to do. He asked me to tell him, so he could write it down. It is a sad situation all around, and my problems seem small compared to hers.
Currently, I am staying with my mother with my five children. We are complete opposites....lol She is an anal neat freak, and all about image. I pray that soon his wife will come back to herself, and I can soon move into my house!
Comments:
I think it's a blessing that the house did not pass inspection fire safety is not something to be taken lightly. We had an electrical situation here years ago and I lost all my appliances, anything plugged in, phone, computer surge protector thankfully, but it's just really a blessing in disquise. Enjoy this time with your mother, some day she won't be around to annoy the crap out of you. Some day your children may be in your situation your teaching them how to treat one another, hang in there! As for this particular yellow house with a red door...it's either it, and will be for you soon, or is pointing you in the direction of another better suited. I have my fingers and toes crossed for you. Hang in there my friend. Get anything you do in writing for your protection. xoxo
