Kim's Journals

A little of this and a tad of that.

Yes, this is my third installment on Big Fat Fakers.  I just had to post agian because, WOW, I am constantly amazed at the lengths to which people will go to create virtual lives for themselves.  I just don't get it.  Mental illness is all I can think of as a reason that anyone would do such things like pretending to be a celebrity, or the mom of a celebrity or making up double profiles to talk to themselves to try to legitmize their ruse.  It makes no sense otherwise.

Do people honestly think that regular (dare I say normal) people believe their lies?  Do they think we can't see through the facade?  Fakes are pretty easy to spot.  If someone suddenly starts posting in a 'voice' that is not their own, it is fairly simple for those of us who read often to see that it did not come from the person who claimed to have written it.  Pictures taken from celebrity websites are pretty easy to spot too.  It doesn't take someone with a 150 IQ to figure out that a picture has been lifted.

Bottom line is people can tell when we are not being genuine, just like in real life, intuition tells us that things just don't add up.  It only takes a few clicks of the mouse a lot of times to drill down on a fake and their fakery*.  It really irritates me to know that people think the average PC user is stupid enough to fall for their fakery.  I know I'm not fooled and most of my friends aren't either, of course I do surround myself with the smartest women on this site, so that probably explains it.

I just wish people valued themselves enough to be real.  I really wish they could just see the special uniqueness that is within them so they wouldn't feel the need to hide behind the fakery.  It really is sad.

For all you fakers out there - if you are mentally ill, get some help, it is out there.  Seriously.  If you are not mentally ill, then get a life.  We don't want to contend with your fakery.  Seriously, you aren't fooling anyone but yourself anyway.

* I know fakery is not a word, but I like it anyway, so I declare it a word in this post.

Oh come on give them a break. Maybe those people don't feel like they have interesting lives and so they make up one to feel better about themselves. So let them be. Who is it really hurting. Just ignore them if you think they are fake.

Fakery is the coolest word ever.  :)

Oh and luckymommy79, who is it hurting?  Well how about if you came on CM and found a profile of someone who had pictures of YOUR kids up and said they were her kids.  What if she wrote journal posts made up of lies about her life with YOUR kids?  I personally think if that wouldn't bother someone as a mother then they might need to get their head examined.

Fakery is a good word.  We all have our words we make up.  I have friendize.  ;)

I would hate for someone to use my kids pictures.

If you steal another mom's photos of her kids and claim those kids as your own that hurts someone! Come on luckymommy79, how can we give these women a break when they do that!? And not only that sort of behaviour but creating multiple profiles to justify and "talk" to themselves. To accept that so they feel better that's downright weird and no we don't have to give them a break.

Sorry, don't mean to jump down your throat, but you have brought up an interesting question.  It may seem like it's not hurting anyone, but the people whose pictures are stolen, or have their words plagiarized are being hurt.  I also disagree that people may not have interesting lives and therefore have to make up stuff to seem more interesting.  That is just not true, everyone has something unique and beautiful about them.  Fakers will never find out what that is though, if they go around in life faking it.
