I went to the farmers market today. I had some extra hot peppers and what not so i packed up the truck and my dear daughter and headed on down.. Well $6.00 earned and $7.00 spent. I unloaded my peppers and what not and came home with some heirloom gourds, an heirloom zuchinni, some goat cheese, and a cabbage ( I didnt need the cabbage but i was bartering to get rid of those last 7 hot peppers.... I also stopped by my "parents" house and picked up a rabbit hutch and 3 dozen eggs. ALl in all I would say a productive day..I also got some business connection for another market during the week. THere is nothing better then talking farming with a bunch of men from the biz for the morning. They are really willing to give out info if you talk their language and tote a very social toddler with pigtails and a rotten grin. and if you get on their good side they are really good about giving out heirloom seeds...which is a better pay off then trying to make money selling produce. I do however thinnk that next week I will be taking baked goods instead of produce.. it seemed to be selling better.. So I encourage all of you to go to your local farmers market instead of your super market this week. It is a very good place to get organic veggies and some good old fashioned conversation. Farming is a dying art, and more people need to take an interest before all the good ones are gone and all of their know how goes with them..
