August 10th is my granddaughter's 8th birthday. So I went shopping today for her. This is the first birthday that I have been allowed to send her anything since she was 2 years old. She is a real girly girl & it sounds like she likes the same kinda clothes that I do, for her age not mine. Her mom was nice enough to send me her sizes. So since I have a family member that works at VF (vanity fair) outlet store I went shopping there to use their discount so I could by more clothes. She wears a 7 slim in jeans & needs the adjustable waist. Wow, were they hard to find! They have lots of other sizes in slim with the adjustable waist but I only found 4 pair of 7's. I figure it may be just as hard for her mom to find her size so I bought all 4 pairs. I had a very hard time picking out shirts caused they had so many cute ones. I finally decided on 4 of them. Boy, did I want to buy 20 of them. I picked up some undies for her, a purse since every girl needs a purse & jewelry ( at must have). I found a really cute necklace & earrings that sorta match them. My husband & 2 year old granddaughter went to the kitchen store while I did my shopping. They finished before me, of course. My husband bought Rose a yellow plastic mixing spoon with a smiley face in it. He bought him 2 of them. She was so excited about that spoon. She came up to me, yelling grandma from the time she came in the door until she got to me at the back of the store. She told me she got a smiley spoon, a yellow one. She is learning her colors & got it right. When I finished we went to the 50% of store. I like to get my son Travis & my hubby some things from there. I picked up a bear for Travis if he ever starts talking to me again. My hubby shopped longer in there than Rose & I did. We went outside to sit on a bench. When we sat down, I noticed she had a hat on that I didn't pay for. So we went back in to see how much it was & we didn't buy it, $30 for a baseball cap, I don't think so. Rose was good about it, didn't say a word. We talked to a great-grandfather about kids while we sat on the bench waiting for my hubby. When he came out he sat with us & joined the conversation. It was really nice. His wife came up & we chatted alittle bit before they left. My hubby then decides he needs new shoes so off we go to the shoe store. I think their prices are still too high but I found some shoes for both my granddaughters. I couldn't decide on shoes for my birthday girl so I got her 2 pair. Rose wanted a pair so I got her one pair like the birthday girl's. A girl just can't have too many shoes, you know. My hubby didn't find him any. I had such a fun time shopping for my granddaughter & kept thinking how much fun my momma would've had. She missed my granddaughter just as much as I have. She would have been so excited to shop for her. She loves shopping but enjoyed it even more when it was for a great-grandchild. So now my hubby will get me a box tomorrow while he is go doing things. After shopping, Rose went home with her mommy & we went to visit my aunt.
It was funny when I got home cause I noticed Rose had left her favorite blanket in the car. I needed to give her mom the shoes I bought her anyway. You should have heard Rose when I walked in. She yelled blanky & had such a happy but surprised look on her face. She thought she lost it again. I showed her new shoes to her parents & she starts yelling out my other granddaughter's name. I had to remind her that I got her a pair just like them. She so wanted to put them on right then but it was bed time so she was told no. I didn't even realize until now that she knew my other granddaughter's name. She said it perfectly too. I guess I should start showing her pictures so she knows what everyone looks like. She knows my momma by her picture, my momma would really like that.
I would love to see my granddaughter's face when she opens this package. I hope I get it in the mail fast enough. I have a problem with doing that. I am the world's worse about getting things done on time. I wasn't like this until I gave birth to my third & last child & I've gotten worse each year. But I'm working on it. When I do get things done on time, my family, being the smartmouths they are, say let me right this down in my journal, mom on time with the date & time.
My dream would be to take each of my grandchildren out by themselves to shop & lunch. But I'm not able to for one reason or another. Dreams can't always come true but it would be nice.
