Understanding the Health Care Bill

Regardless of your political preferences, I urge you for moral reasons to email or call your US congressional representative and senators today (even if you have called or emailed before) to oppose the horrifically bad Health Care Bill that is before Congress.  The legislators are under extreme pressure to pass this bill; we need to exert extreme pressure for it not to be passed.
Click on this link Fred Thompson: Interviews and please listen to the 8 minute interview with someone who has carefully read this bill.  It will start automatically.  (See also a summary of some of the terrible points of this bill below.)

Contact both of your senators and your representative.  Ask them to read Page 425 of the proposed health care bill

On Page 425 of this Health Care Bill, the Federal Government will require EVERYONE who is on Social Security (this will include all senior citizens and SSI people) to a MANDATORY counseling session every 5 years in which the counselor will explain to the person why and how to choose one of various ways to end his/her suffering (and his/her life).  Yes, they are going to push SUICIDE to cut Medicare spending!  Health care will be denied based on age.  500 billion dollars will be cut from the senior citizen healthcare budget.  The only way for that to happen is to drastically cut health care.  The oldest and the sickest will be cut first.  Paying for your own care will not be an option

I urge you to email or call your Congressmen in Washington today!!!    Tell them to read page 425 of this bill, if they don't read anything else.  Surely, some of them have elderly parents who will be affected by this..  And politicians themselves will be affected by this some day too

Feel free to send this email to everyone in your address book.  The web address www.usa.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml provides the email address of every elected official in the United States.  It might help others make the necessary contacts regarding page 425 of the proposed health care bill.

The President is trying to rush this bill through Congress -- before the American people (and maybe even before your political representatives) find out what is buried on page 425 and other pages of this lengthy Health Care Bill.

Little gems from the Health Care Bill

• Page 469: Community-based Home Medical Services: more payoffs for ACORN.

• Page 472: Payments to Community-based organizations: more payoffs for ACORN.

"It was once said that the moral test of Government is how that Government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; and those who are in the shadows of life, the sick, the needy and the handicapped. "  Hubert H. Humphrey

Together we can tell Congress that any government-run healthcare plan good enough for the American people must be good enough for our civic leaders.

Please click the link and demand that all members of Congress and the Senate, and all of their employees get the same kind of medical coverage that they are voting for, for you.  No more, no less, as it seems to be the only way to make them look at what they are doing. . .

It is simple, quick and easy. . .  Just hit the link.  It will take you less time than it did to read this blurb that I wrote. . .

Thank you and pass it on to all that you know !

Good Enough for Congress

Tell Congress to Take a Dose of Their Own Medicine

If They Vote for Government-Run Healthcare, They Enroll in Government-Run Healthcare

A government-sponsored public plan option continues to be the most contentious issue in the current health reform debate. Proponents of the option believe it provides an alternative. It lets Americans choose between a government-run option and private insurers, while at the same time applying competitive pressure to the rest of the insurance industry. Opponents say the introduction of a public plan would lead to the federal takeover of the country’s healthcare system, thereby restricting patient choice, reducing quality and increasing the power of the federal government.
As health legislation continues to be debated, one has to ask whether members of Congress writing such legislation would actually enroll themselves in a new government-run healthcare option. Current draft healthcare legislation exempts members of Congress from the public plan option, allowing them to keep their existing plans.
Congressman John Fleming (LA-04) is asking this very question noting that public servants should be accountable and responsible for what they are advocating.  He has created a resolution calling on members of Congress who support a public option to enroll themselves and encourage their colleagues to do the same.  We support his resolution and broaden it to include congressional staff as well.

Yes, unfortunately, this is where our country is going! And, no, it doesn't make any sense at all. It is more money for Obama and ACORN, none for the rest of us and no medical help at all for us. It is all about rationing healthcare and you definitely won't be able to get the help you need when you need it. Why would you want an organization like ACORN to have access to your PERSONAL info?! ARRGGGHH! I just read another article like this and was going to post it, but yours is better. Thank you for posting this and I really hope that more people read this and realize that this is going to happen(or could) if we don't stop it!

here is the letter i am sending to my reps

I am writing you to urge you to please READ the health care reform bill that is being rushed through the congress as I write this. The insurance that I have at this time is exactly what my family needs, and to be honest, no matter what your response to me I have no faith in ANY bill that gets passed not meddling in my current health care under this current administration. I am getting the feeling from reading this bill that there is an air of entitlement going on. Just because other people don't have the same coverage I have (which by the way my husband works his rear end off to provide for my family) I shouldn't have it either? How messed up is that? We have health concerns in our family that scare me to death, especially now that the government is messing in our health care. My biggest concern is my mental health issues, an issue that is greatly misunderstood by those who do not suffer and non mental health professionals. Having people write law on such an issue without any real experience in it is irresponsible and negligent.  If you are so sure that this is the BEST way for our country to go, I challenge you to live for the next 4 years on this program before you decide to pass it. You just may change your mind. Please I beg of you do not pass this.

Hmm. The mandatory counseling is about whether or not you have an advance directive. Oh no! I received counseling about that upon admission to the hospital to have my daughter. Apparently, they were trying to kill me, I guess, not asking me whether or not I'd want to remain on life support indefinitely. Advance directive DOES NOT EQUAL end-of-life care. Those are two different concepts entirely.

I'm getting really tired of people picking apart random lines from random versions of different bills floating around and sounding an alarm when they don't even know what they're getting upset about.

Do you have ANY IDEA what telehealth even is? Telehealth, or telemedicine, provides rural communitites access to specialty services that they lack--using video conferencing, not the telephone. For example, the hospital with which I am affiliated provides telemedicine support for child sexual assault cases in areas where the child would otherwise have to suffer through a 2 hour or more car trip with a stranger to a hospital with qualified personnel to do an examination. Instead, the examiner can read remotely the images relayed through the colposcope that a local physician is using in response to the expert's instructions. This keeps the child in the community they belong to and has been shown to improve the collection of forensic evidence and changed the way that practitioners gained information from the patient, using the multimethod technique used by experts instead of "So, tell me what happened."

Practicing physicians in many places are already prohibited from owning or investing beyond a certain amount in healthcare companies anyways, to prevent conflict of interest. This would not actually produce any change in practice were it to be put into law. In fact, it already is a law for many physicians and has been for decades.

Many government agencies that deal with health already have mandates for community involvement---these have been in place for many, many years and are not a product of the Obama administration. I am involved with projects that have this mandate, and the community organizations involved are not ACORN (never met or heard from anyone from that group) but local breast cancer awareness groups, Huntington's disease family support groups, groups of families with children with autism spectrum disorders, etc.

I don't know everything that's in the bill. What I do know is that whenever I see someone panicking about something, it is usually because they don't understand what the topic is about. Before you panic, do more to educate yourself than just reading the text of the bill. Find out what concepts mean (e.g., telehealth) if they are unfamiliar to you. Find out how things are currently done (e.g., how Medicare reimbursement is currently set). Don't panic until then.
