I just have to say that these groups are AMAZING!! So we had a house fire on Friday, and thankfully it was minimal damage, mostly water damage from the hoses. Ewell Volunteer Fire Department arrived quickly and did so little damage it is amazing. They contacted the Red Cross for us because we couldn't stay in the house until it was checked out and the power turned back on. The Red Cross people showed up. They were the sweetest little older couple, he was half deaf and she had lost her voice in a car accident, but they were right on the ball with the paperwork and services. They put us up in a hotel for 3 nights for free. They gave us a credit card with money for food and new clothes because of the smoke damage. They even gave our daughter a stuffed animal, and the wife got onto the husband because he didn't bring more stuffed animals for the boys. The same night dh's commander came in and told us he would be contacting AER. They said, "just let us know what you need, and how much it costs, no problem". So we will be cleaning up for the next few days and seeing if there is anything we really NEED from them. Salvation Army has an open ended statement that once we get the report from the fire they will help us with anything we need.
I am honestly amazed at how these people do everything they do. Seriously, this could have been horribly tragic, instead it has been made bearable by these groups. Thank you so much if you work for any of these organizations, I can never repay everything you all have done for me and my family.
