This is my first journal, and it is something I wrote for my composition class a couple of years ago. I figured some other mothers on here could probably relate to my challenge, so I decided to share it.
Every weekday morning I have a challenge that I face. It is getting my five-year-old son Zion up and ready for school. I start by waking him up. This is the first challenge. He is a very deep sleeper, and it takes about fifteen minutes just to get him to wake up. Once he is awake, the biggest challenge begins. You see he has ADHD, and as soon as he wakes up, he is bouncing all over the place while I am trying to get him ready for school. Mornings are especially active for him because his medicine from the day before has worn off and his new dose has not started working yet. I have to give him his clothes and follow him around telling him step-by-step what to change. I have to tell Zion each thing numerous times before he gets it done. The clothes changing process is about a twenty-minute ordeal. After Zion is dressed, we move to getting his socks and shoes on. For some reason this task is very difficult for him to focus on. He will get one sock on and then off he goes doing something else. I have to remind him constantly what he is supposed to be doing. By the time he is done getting his shoes on and is ready to go out the door to school, a full hour has gone by since I woke him up. This is one of the busiest, most challenging hours of my day. I am so relieved when it is over.
