I am not a mistake

Who I am isn't who I was

Take a second look because

I am not a mistake

I am not perfect, but I have learned

I should get points for wisdom earned

And how I got through heartbreaks

I am not a mistake

If my scars bother you

Then you're one without a clue

That survival always has a price

My compassion is real

Because I know the deal

I'm not just being nice

I am not Vanity Fair or Marie Claire

I've done more than Cosmo dares

Because I wanted to define myself

So if you want a cookie cutter girl

Or some textbook definition world

Do me a favor--find someone else

I am good, my heart is right

And though I'm lonely night after night

With every tear shed and breath I take

My heart prays for God's grace

For true love and a life with space

To validate what I know

That I'll continue to love and grow

And nothing was a mistake
