Robyn's Journal

My job is done if you go eww, OMG or LOL

Check this out. (I know it is a photo of a photo of bad quality). Just when you thought you knew everything about me I pull out this gem out of my past. lol.

That is ME in the hot pink dress about to win some where in 4th to 6th place (they did it in groups/rounds after 3rd place) in a pageant for Miss New England. One of the few best days of my life from those years.... considering most days I didn't want to exist any more.

As many things as my mother did with my raising this is one of the things I think she did right. She pushed me to do this pageant because I had a very low opinion of myself and my looks due to the people around me. So of course my answer was "pshhh yeah right, I'm not pretty enough to be in one of those, but if it will make you happy I will give it a go".

To be honest, I don't know what parent (yes there were some men back there getting their little princess's ready to go out. Eat that TLC), would put their child into these and not be into it considering how much work it takes on their behalf and how little work it takes from the child to participate.

For the most part it was all fun and games till the make up went on. After that it is your turn to put in effort towards the pageant by siting or stand still so you don't mess up your hair ,make up (do I look like a little whore or what? lol), or dress that your parent's just spent about an hour doing so you look "perfect".

So anywho, The girl standing in front of me looking down the hall way, she is a friend I made at the pageant. Her name escapes me right now, but she had been doing pageants and contests since she was in diapers. Pretty much everybody is friendly and the kids and parents will mingle, talk, as well before we got all dressed up for the event. Many of the kids had already known each other for years through these things and stayed in touch long distance. Sure there were a few snobs with parents as equally snobby, but there were less than a hand full of those people they make TV shows about. After all it just wouldn't make good TV if they showed that pageants aren't all about competition... or selling sex...

Moral of the story. TV isn't the entire reality of anything so stop watching it to form halfbutt opinions off of it. Get off your butt, go live life and really learn about things.

You look so sweet! I wonder how much it has changed since you were in it, though? I don't have cable, so I don't watch whatever show you're talking about. I get my info from Little Miss Sunshine. wink mini

Thanks for posting this.

Pageants are not for everyone. But, what's the harm in seeing if they are for you (or your child.)

PS: I had a dress like that, that I wore in my mothers wedding. LOL

I had a dress a great deal like that when I was 15, the bodice was a bit different.

Agreeing with above, you wereARE a winner  : )
