ALG's Journal

You will be assimilated...

I am immune.
Really.
My focus was it should multitask, and if it can't multitask it should be small and portable if at all possible.

We have 4 large baby things on our registry.
1    true fit car seat
1    4-in-1 convertable crib
1    easy fold jogging stroller (5 to 75lbs)  (on the expensive side -- multi contributer gift)

We have 2 small to medium items
1    small portable pack and play (no bells or whistles)
1    small changing table   (for downstairs, there is no good place except the hardwood floor or dining table -- ewww!)

Everything else is small and under $40

Baby gowns
Onesies
3 hooded towels
Bathing tub
Infant to todder recliner to rocker
baby bjorn potty
portable door jumper
baby monitor
tooth care kit
organic natural crib sheets
flat mat  for play or under a high chair (we have hardwood floors)
a few toys for later

Mommy Supplies:

Washable nursing pads
Medela breast pump (I don't care if this gets bought or not)
Medela accessories with glass bottles
Milk storage bags
Lansinoh
2 slings

We've already been given TWO kits with bulb syringe, nail clippers etc.,   a papasan chair, travel activity mat,  and little travel swing.          A good friend tried to give me an exersaucer but the thing is gigantic and we don't have the room and I don't like them anyway.

I don't use lotions, creams or  powders.  (I want to itch right now just typing that)
I am using prefolds, flats and covers (already bought)
I made underpads that after the birth I'll use as changing and sleeping pads.

We didn't make a registry, we bought most of the stuff and then told everyone that we needed clothes, lol.  We got some pretty cool stuff that I would have liked if I'd seen it before it was given to us so I'm excited about that.  I'm definitely more of a consumer than you, LOL!  There's NOTHING wrong with not wanting all of the hooplah, though.  We cut out most of the unnecessary stuff and got what we thought we'd need over what would be nice to have.  You did much better than us, though.  : D

I got all the hooplah (good word, Angel) with Liam, so all I needed for Fi was pink clothes and medium gDiapers. And car seats, which I bought myself, so no biggie. I think being AP = not needing all that crap.

Aug. 5, 2009 at 12:27 PM my biggest waste of money was the crib (even got a 3-1)...she never used it.

We have the crib sidecarred to our bed.   We have a Queen size and my husband and I fight for territory as it is :)     This crib converts to a toddler bed, then to a day bed, and finally a full sized bed.

That's what we did with our crib, ALG.  We couldn't with Kiddo but we did this time.  It's up against the wall and our bed is pushed up against it.  We also have a queen and it's ROUGH with just us in it since I like the whole bed, lol.  We want to co-sleep but we can't all fit on the queen so I think this will work perfectly.  It was cheaper than buying a co-sleeper, too.

I think people just see those "cute" pre-packaged baby gift boxes and think "Oh I can just get that, it'll be easy for me and everyone needs those things anyway."  I think its mostly ease for the buyer, rather than something the receiver needs.  I know its a pain in the rear end to take it back to a store, but at least you can and get something you need/want.

AGREED! what the hell? who really needs 7 different types of baby wash, sippy cups, portable swings, full size swings,  bouncers, exersaucers, and stupid baby einstein DVDs. BUT you might want to spring for a boppy. i breastfed so often and so long that it freed up my hands to trim her nails or read a book.

Boppy is a great suggestion. I know life existed once without them, but it made my life so much more functionable when trying to feed my little one while holding my triple D breasts as not to smother him.

Just out of curiousity... why don't you care if you get the medela pump?

The medela is an expensive item and I really don't plan on pumping as I don't expect I'll need to.     If I do need to pump I'm sure I can cross that bridge if it gets built.

BTW I did forget that I DID put a boppy on the registry.
