My daughter and I went to the driver's license office yesterday to apply for her driver's permit.  I was sorting through the paperwork yesterday evening and noticed her social security card was missing.  I'd had a migraine and thought maybe it had somehow slipped out of the stack on our way back to our vehicle.

I was so worried.  These days it is too easy for identity theft to occur, and I've tried to teach my children to be responsible with important papers and with their identities and important numbers.  I was sick that she's only just now beginning to need the card for important things like a driver's license, job applications, and all the other things life throws at us, and I was the one responsible for losing it the first time I dared to take it out of the lock box to use it!

I drove back to the office last night and looked all over where I'd parked, walked the street and sidewalk of our path, and searched the truck.  I was awake most of the night, hoping I had not caused her problems before she even gets started in life!  All I could think of was that someone could steal that card and her identity, and she's only 15.

I called this morning to see if the card had hopefully been turned in, then went to get dressed so I could drive to town and search inside the building myself, in case it was lying next to a wall and had not been noticed.  On an off-chance, I decided to ask her if she'd seen her card.

Of course, she had it in her wallet this whole time!  ARRRRRGGG  I first thanked God for protecting the card, then told her how frantic I'd been about it.  She had slipped it out of the stack of papers I'd had without my knowledge.  But at least it was found, finally.  She had no idea how worried I'd been or what a big deal it was.
