I would like to say there is a way. But the truth is if you have a Will then you are less likely to be screwed.

Many people fear taking those steps to make a Will. Some see it as tempting fate when making a Will. Others find it very morbid and avoid it at all costs. But when you make a living Will then you have a voice even after your death. Who gets your diamond earrings? Who gets the house? Who gets your debt? And for gay couples who gets your kids?

For those who are gay you can actually make your partner the God Parent so to speak. This keeps your family from baring their fangs and stealing your children away from your partner. As long as you have it in writing with your signature at the bottom they can't do jack about it.

Not to mention for some of us going to college. We worry about what happens when we do end up with a load of money? We all know we have those certain family members who are just salivating at the thought of "adopting" your children so they can have that nice cushy pay check. Or even the all out brawl over your possessions.

Wills just make it easier and organized when they are distributing your stuff. I mean if you want Aunt Ester to have the fine China but Uncle Bob breaks into the house as night and starts grabbing things he thinks he is entitled to... what is to stop him? You didn't have a Will so there is no proof he is stealing from Aunt Ester.

Also in some cases I have heard of the city taking over someones estate and distributing the possessions as they saw fit. I don't know about you but I really don't want them making decisions about my stuff and child. Because I don't want certain people getting hold of my stuff. I know way to many cousins wanting to get their hands on a few of my things so they can pawn it and buy drugs with it.

And I know too many people whose home life is unacceptable for my son to grow up in. So when I get the money I am going to get a Will.

I also want to add research your lawyer. The lawyer might come with a bargain price but his work isn't usually worth it.

And don't just get any will! We're trying to figure out DH's stepfather's will right now, which was horribly written by an obviously idiot lawyer! (I don't think all lawyers are horrible; my brother is one.)
