you know you want to go ahead.

humorus, funny, quirky, cool

Hi...thanks for opening :)

I took all three kids today to get their back to school haircuts..2 of my 3 are on the spectrum and have adhd/anxiety disorder....

For my ds...it is just about as bad as going to the dentist...we get there...and he goes first...he was real fidgety while getting his hair washed....Then it came to his haircut.....he kept telling the stylist to "hold his hair far away from his head when she cuts it". She looked over at the stylist standing next to her and I could see the look of.."whatever"! When she got close to his ears him "jumped" a little bit...she said "Better watch out...if you move again like that...I might cut you" my ds said...Mom  Mom...I walked over and said "What honey".. as he just trembled he said..."hold my hand...please"...of course I did that and the stylist looked at me and said..."Is he OK"? I replied.."Yes"....just carefully cut his hair...please....

Now for my dd who is 6, she had difficulty even being able to relax enough for her head to lay back in the bowl, she kept her head turned to the side so she could see me...the stylist said.."look up,,up..you know....UP" I could see her fustration as she tried to crank her head straight...and then my dd would turn back to my immediately..I went over and held her hand and talked to her while the stylist finished washing her hair...The cut went pretty good.... I could just see the "not wanting too" the next  child , my other dd 6, (twins), but that went just fine...

It is hard to go to restaurants, grocery store,,or alot of places that people take for granted everyday.

Both are very sensitive to the sunlight,,,and loud noises,,,they may stop in the middle of the parking lot and duck down and cover their ears when a car alarm goes off , an airplane goes overhead..or even to hear the choo choo at the zoo..

I am so tired of "defending" or explaining to everyone about them. They look just like any other kid and yet they have such "quirky" behavior....They are not bad, defiant or mean...they are them, anxiety , sensory ,  and repetitive,,,and can't forgot their cute stims they each have...

so thats it........I am done "whispering" to the stylist/server/cashier or anyone else out there...why it is that they are "odd/quirky/weird" as I have heard people refer to them.

They are wonderful kids who just want to fit in with your kids in society.

thanks for listening...and I would love it if you could vote this popular..get the word out about kids on the spectrum...not that different than yours....they just have "quirks" that most kids don't!

I have a nephew, by marriage, with Asperger's.  Before I met him DH explained to me how he may act just so I'd know.  He is such a sweet boy.  He has his moments but what child doesn't!  I haven't been with him in public much but I'm sure my SIL gets "the look' also.  I now have a 17 year old cousin who has a baby they think has autism.  I voted your post popular to get the word out!!

i like what you wrote and i have a special needs child that is older now he is 29 but when he was younger i use to take him to the store and he would feel on the maniquins legs the stockings and then he would feel on womens legs he be on the floor and surprise them looking under their dress and touching their legs. I was so imbarrased i didnt know what to do but he had other bad habits as well that i had to break him of but it was a battle taking him in the store. so what do you think

I know how you feel I have a 6 yr old who has ADHD, a 3 yr old who I suspaect has ADHD, an 8 yr old, then I babysit 3 other kids one of which is 18 and is severely autistic. It is very difficult to take them anywhere. People lkook at you like you have sprung an extra head. I have ask people several times over thew years if they have a problem. My kids, even the ones I babysit really are not that much different than other kids they r just special. I admire people like you who are able to look overs others faults and stupidity without saying something. I voted this most popular because I think other people should know not all kids are the same but they are all spaecial. you rock

My son is very hearing impaired and wears big hearing aids, the kind that sit behind the ear. I have quit taking him to get his hair cut because we have to take the hearing aids out to have his hair cut , well without them he can't hear, and  every stylist I have taken him to  has gotten aggravated that I had to stand next to him so  that I could translate what the stylist wanted him to do, you know like look down, or a certain way, i just quit putting him thought the torture of going to the hair salon, his wonderful Aunt cuts his hair now!
