I believe it is completely selfish to take your organs with you. They are no use to you once you pass and if it could save someone's life why not. Think about it this way if you can donate your eyes you may give a mother a chance to see her baby for the first time. Your heart can beat in the chest of someones mother or father.  There is no reason not to donate any organ that can be used.

I have registered to have every possible organ, tissue, etc donated,  as has my husband. Should I ever have to make that decision with any of my children, I would not hesitate to donate their organs as well. I think everything should be donated automatically unless there are health reasons that don't permit it. I also think that all cord blood, unless saved or used by the baby in delayed cord clamping should be donated as well. Saving lives shouldn't be an option, it should be an automatic thing.

yes I'm an organ donor.. I was so happy to finally turn 18 because I could finally put that on my drivers license.. I dont know how to make my son an organ donor. He's not even 2 years old yet so hopefully I'll never have to make that decision but if I ever did I will donate his organs too.. I just pray to god I never have to make that decision.. I think EVERYONE should be an organ donor or that it shouldnt be a decision they should just take them once we're dead except for the ones with problems and that cant be used.. People die everyday and the list for needed organs wouldnt be near as long if people would automatically donate organs..

I see this from a different vantage point. You see,I am waiting for a liver transplant without which I will die a premature death.I have been officially listed at 2 different transplant centers for just over 2 years. The truth is that most of us waiting will die waiting.17 of us every day die on the list.Just getting on the list is a monumental task, and if your insurance doesn't cover it or you're uninsured there are huge deposits required just to be considered.

Thank all of you for being willing to give the gift of life.I am moved by your thoughts of people like me in a horrific time in a family's life.I never pray for an organ,as I know the day I receive the most wonderful gift imaginable will be a tragic day for somebody else.I leave that to God.

One last issue, ladies. Please make sure your next of kin are aware of your desire to donate.Even with the signed donor card in most states the next of kin must give the legal go ahead. If they refuse the organs cannot be harvested.Tell everyone,no matter how uncomfortable the subject,of your wish to donate. Many organs have been lost due to lack of communication. And thank you.One of you may save my life.I hope not,but I thank you just in case.

My DH and I are both organ donors. We both made talked about it and agreed that our wishes be carried out. I think here in MN you have to have the consent of the spouse. If anything were to ever happen to our son I would also donate his organs.

I am an organ donor. Why will I need my organs after I'm dead? Especially if they could save someone's life?
