I was JUST curious! Today I found out my sister has HPV and posted it on my facebook account and 2 gals I have known ALMOST all my life scolded me for TMI and for violating the HiPPA law! SOoooooooo wanted to see what the "avg. bear" thinks when they hear HPV! Btw my sister has the Hpv that causes cancer! She is 2 1/2 months pregnant too!
Comments:
she asked me to! ALL the people on my fb are family or longtime friends that are LIKE family! she does NOT have a fb account or access to a computer! So she asked me to do it! so you 2 automatically thought std!! interesting!
HPV IS an STD. Not sure why she would ask you to tell everyone that she has one but if she did then I guess I retract the statement about it being mean.
Uh...no one was talking about the HPV vaccine. Just HPV.
HPV is an STD and an STD only, period.
ok ladies here are some facts i got from my doctor because i have hpv. you can also get this info at any health dep.
"hpv is the most common sexually transmitted virus in the United States.
There are about 40(i have also heard that this number could also be close to 100) types of HPV. about 20 million people in the US are infected, and about 6.2 million more get infected each year. HPV is spread through sexual contact
Most HPV infections don't cause any symptoms, and go away on their own. But HPV is important mainly because it CAN cause cervical cancer in women. Every year in the US 10,000 women get cervical cancer and 3,700 die from it It is the 2nd leading cause of cancer deaths among women around the world.
HPV is also associated with several less common types of cancer in both men and women. it can also cause genital warts and warts in the upper respiratory tract.
More than 50% of sexually active men and women are infected with HPV at sometime in their lives
there is no treatment for HPV infection, but the conditions it causes can be treated."
i have been told by my doctor there is close to 100 types of HPV only 2 of these types causes 70% of cervical cancer and 90% of genital warts. also at this time there is no test for men.
hope this helps
that Hippa Law is a good law but people get hysterical at times. my sister in law is a nurse, she used to spend family reunions telling people about patients we knew and what was in their file. awful. but to get scolded for talking the way you are, um, over the top. my best to her treatment and recovery.
when someone is talking out of concern, unburdening themselves, educating others...I think it is a beautiful thing.....when a couple people talk at a party about someone's recovery from alcoholism or still birth, that is something else. just another thought on the trickiness of the Hippa and etiquette. let this lady have her say, she is coming from a good place
yeah, she was! SHE is a private person. My family and I are NOT really! we talk about EVERYTHING! embarrassing at times and hostile BUT we get it ALL out in the open and DEAL w/ the problem at hand! we have kinda laughed it off now! OOH and we JUST found out THIS week that my granma has breast cancer! and wanted me to post it! I did but left out the "breast" Lol ! didn't want a "repeat"

1 in 4 woman has HPV and many don't even know it. It's the most prevalent STD in the USA. I don't think you exactly violated the HIPPA law but it's not exactly very nice to let the world know that your sister has an STD via Facebook....
