My daughter is only 7 years old and going into 2nd grade.  She has very dark and thick hair on her legs and she's quite self conscious about it.  Is she too young to be shaving?

I'd appreciate any other Mom's advice who have gone through this with their young daughters.

I wouldn't want my DDs to be shaving at that age (I have a 9 yr old and a 4 yr old). But that's just me ;)

I haven't gone through that w/ my daughter, but I know people who have & they used Nair hair removal.  I personally think that is a safer route to take, especially at 7 yrs old, b/c you just rub it on, wait a few mins, & wash it off, and it usually lasts several days or longer.

My daughter is only 2 1/2, but I went through this as a kid. My mom didn't let me shave until I was about 11 or 12, and only then because I told her that I would refuse to wear shorts for the whole summer and get heat stroke because I was so self conscious about the leg hair (and it wasn't even dark, just thick).

I feel that 7 is a little young to be shaving, but I also think that it's important for her to feel self-confident. It's hard enough growing up these days with all the pressure on young girls to "look the look." You may try lightening the hair, or something like nair or veet.

There is no harm teaching her the right way to shave and moistuie now. If she is aware, she will start doing it on her own anyway.  I raised four daughters, they were shaving early because the older ones were.   Best to teach right from the beginning and get into good hygeine methods now,
