Station wagon driver cited for dangerous left turn
By Barney Lerten, KTVZ.COM
A Bend couple was critically injured late Sunday afternoon when their motorcycle crashed into the side of a station wagon that turned left into their path on the McKenzie Pass Scenic Highway (state Highway 242), Oregon State Police reported.
The other driver was cited for a dangerous left turn.
Around 4 p.m., a 1999 Subaru Legacy driven by William F. Foster, 51, of Veneta, was westbound on the highway, about three mile west of the viewpoint, when Foster tried to turn left, toward a highway turnout, said OSP Sgt. Eric Brown.
The Subaru turned into the path of an eastbound 2004 Honda motorcycle operated by Rodney Earl Kentner, 52, of Bend, Brown said.
Kentner and his wife, Jeanne T. Kentner, 47, were thrown from the motorcycle and flown by AirLink helicopter to St. Charles Medical Center-Bend, where they were listed in critical condition late Sunday night, according to a nursing supervisor.
Both motorcyclists were wearing helmets, while Foster, who was unhurt, was wearing his seat belt, Brown said.
OSP troopers from the Bend Area Command office were completing the investigation, assisted at the scene by Sisters-Camp Sherman RFPD medics and ODOT crews.

The two people flown to the hospital was a fellow cafemom (J.T.K.) member and her husband. Her daughter is also a member of this site and is extremely worried about her mother. Updates are as they are received from the member's daughter.
As of 10:00 EST- they are getting ready to finish up surgery on my mom. The rest of the pelvic procedure is going to be some hardcore and invasive surgery but they'll have all her organs and parts put back together tonight and she'll get closed up. Everything is looking good for her at the moment. They still expect her to be in the ICU for a few more days, then in the hospital for a bit longer- in all, roughly 10 more days expected at least in her hospital stay. Then, she will need to go to a care facility for a couple weeks for help and therapy.
All that is a big sigh of relief at the moment- but we need prayers and good energy for this last surgerical procedure. :0)
Rod is still much the same. It appears as though the swelling around his brain is going down... but they are not 100% on that. The doctors have been bringing him in and out of consciousness in order to "test" his thinking. He's answering their questions, for the most part. The only one he keeps getting wrong is my mom's birthday!
I find that humorous... considering he very well might not know! He's the kind of guy that really understands the importance of a good calendar. Thus, while we are all finding a bit of humor in that- he's still rather iffy at this time and there isn't anything that can be done but for us to wait.
Update:
As of 1:00 pm- August 18th:
I just spoke with my mom's doctor. He was great about just giving me the what for- no cherry coatings. She's going to be in it for the long haul. They HAVEN'T done any pelvic surgery yet. Her damage is WAY more extensive than they thought. (graphic) He said to imagine that she did the splits and then continued going... her pelvic bone has been literally broken in half, going up. The nerves were pulled out and are in serious condition.(end graphic) He is very concerned about nerve damage but will not be able to test for anything until after they wake her up.
They have not done any surgical repairs because her damage is so bad that he doesn't have much to work with in order to keep her healing correctly and efficiently. He is going in tonight to put in a temporary structure. This will help line things up as needed and hopefully give them time to reevaluate her problems and create a solid plan for future correction. He does want to get her closed up soon- in fear of shock and infection... but is hesitant about future re-openings. But, as we discussed- that is going to be inevitable. The best course is for her future well being... hopefully being able to walk and sit. :0)
They are going to continue keeping her fully sedated because she cannot move at all. This is another problem he has- he needs to do as much as possible all at one time- as it is dangerous to move her.
With all that said... right now the biggest worry is infection. Her outlook is good. They fully expect her to recover and eventually be up and at 'em again. :0)
Update:
6:30 pm EST- Mom has gone into the first of the big pelvic surgeries... *fingers crossed*
11:30 pm EST
Not
good news. The doctor went in to fix her pelvic bone but couldn't do
it... it is too bad. He doesn't feel confident in doing it and wants to
send her to Portland. That way, she's getting the best of the best at
OHSU. However- that means that she'll be in Portland for the entirety
of her care- until she is done with all surgeries and in ready to be on
rehab status only. They don't even want to try and pin down how long
that is going to take... I don't know who will go with her right away.
Also- her ankle is far worse than they thought as well- it will probably need to be fused.
