My youngest, Paige, turned 6 years old last Wednesday, and we had her a party at Churcky E. Cheese. It was...interesting, to say the least. First off, there's a couple of things you need to know about Paige.
1. She's bubbly and vivacious, but will become nervous if suddenly thrust into the center of attention.
2. When she gets nervous, she clams up and looks painfully miserable.
Exibit A, her Kindergarten school picture from last year:

Now, Paige has been asking for a Chuck E Cheese party since last year's birthday. She's never ever been there, even for a casual dinner.
I really think I should have taken her at least once before the party. Wanna see why?

Yeah, we got about 30 more like this. "Yay...a new Barbie doll..."
After much coaxing, we finally just brought Chuck E to her. At this point it was rather painful to watch since hers was the center table and EVERYONE was now watching.

At this point I'm terrified that everyone is thinking I abuse my kid and she's horribly miserable. My biggest fear was that she wasn't having a good time. Luckily, she perked up some!

Do I know how to throw a party or what?

Hysterical I was thinking about doing my son's 3rd bday party there but had a feeling the same thing might happen! Your daughter is too cute :)
Oh my word, I think your dd and my 4 year old dd are kindred spirits! My dd is also a fun loving, energetic happy girl...but put her in a new situation or with new people, and she clams right up too! Her headstart picture from this past spring looks a LOT like your dd's kindergarten pic. She just had preK screening, and they were afraid they'd have to label her as "slow" b/c she was refusing to talk or write or respond in any way!!!
OMG those pics are too precious and they're definately something you'll look back on and laugh over. I think the school pic is my absolute favorite. The crossed arms kill me. :) Thanks for sharing your cutie!!
LMAO!
Oh, that made my day. I absolutely love the school picture, that's a classic keeper. She'll appreciate it one day.
I wish I could upload the picture now, but I have one of me from age 7 or so. My mom and I were at my grandma's house, and mom was going to take a picture of me. I was in a pissy mood for some reason, and so I had a serious look on my face just like your daughter. I LOVE that picture now, it's so funny!
I used to think the exact same thing about my daughter! (that everyone would think she was the most miserable little girl in the world-LOL!) She would literally Hide under the table when everyone would start singing Happy Birthday! No Matter where we were having her party! I still remember all of her friends asking "What's wrong Dena?" She always had the same look on her face as your daughter when the attention was drawn n her- When she was around 10, we just skipped singing and went straight for the cake, she also hated un-wrapping presents in front of people too! The good news is she is now 23; and she found her way out of her shell, my daughter is now a Fashion Designer & does alot of Modeling- I am sure your beautiful daughter will come out of her shell too!
