Scary day yesterday!
Sunday night when I was getting ready for bed, I noticed a small amount of brownish discharge when I wiped. I was concerned, but figured my best course of action would be to get a good night's sleep and call my doctor in the morning.
I wasn't factoring that in the morning, the discharge would be brownish red. Needless to say, I FREAKED out.
So, I called my husband and I called my doctor and I was in her office when she came in and said, "Well, your ultrasound last week revealed that you have a very small amount of subchorionic bleeding."
I didn't know what that was, so she explained. Apparently early in pregnancy some women get a small hematoma--a pool of blood--as a consequence of implantation, etc. The majority of the time it resolves itself and you don't have any symptoms.
Of course, I had bleeding, which scared the crap out of me. But we listened to the baby's heart, which I didn't get to do last week (couldn't hear it), and my little one sounds good and healthy. I'm probably going to not feel better until my second trimester starts (I'm almost 11 weeks), but what a relief to hear that. My doctor said I'm probably going to have spotting off and on for a week, although I didn't have any this morning yet, which relieved me. I had a bunch yesterday after my exam--mostly pink--and I suspect that's from having my doctor's hand up there:)
So anyway, I wanted to share because apparently 20% of women who have bleeding in their first trimester have subchorionic bleeding, and the majority of the time, it turns out to be fine:)
