I just came over from the Playskool group where there was a poll on education...
I want to say for the record that I was home-schooled. I was able to go on (easily) to college but chose instead to CLEP my bachelors (why waste time?). I have been working since I was sixteen. Within a year, at each job I've ever had, I was promoted to manager or higher (not simple restaurant jobs either, though I've done that too). I have a larger, daily vocabulary than anyone I know. My social skills are impeccable but I choose when to use them. I don't feel the need to be accepted by society so I don't cower and say "yes" to everyone I meet. I run my life, it doesn't run me and I have the ability to think for myself.
Am I a stupid, home-schooled child?
Think again before you judge. It's that self-same judging that shows us how well your social skills have really developed. A truly sociable person wouldn't point a finger at me... now would they? :P
Thanks for the vent! :)

I tried to homeschool. My son didn't want to cooperate. I know the value of homeschooling.
The whole social skills argument really kills me. You're right about people pointing their fingers. They most likely learned that judgemental bunk from public schools.
You seem like a very intelligent, classy lady. Kudos to your parents for educating you so well.
Don't you just love how people that have no idea what they're talking about always throw their opinions in? To me, that shows their "stupidity."
My best friend was homeschooled until we were in eighth grade. Her mom then let her attend public school with me. She's a perfectly well-adjusted 21 year old college senior now. No weirdness there (well, our sense of humor IS rather strange...mehehehehe :-B)
I completely agree I plan to weigh the option of homeschool versus the local school and will do what I feel is in the best interest of my child. When homeschooled, there are no bad influences out of youre control, there is no judging based on clothing etc, no peer pressure, etc. I feel homeschooling is a great approach to a safer, more christian and controlled education. And for the record I attended public school, however my friends family homeschooled, and all of them went on to get college degrees and be successfull.
Good post. I was recently told, "I know all about homeschoolers, I watch Wife Swap". That is the most asinine thing I'd heard yet. Who judges an entire group of people based on a reality show?! LOL!

I hear ya. I am so sick of seeing people bash home schooling. I have friends who had been home schooled. They are smart, well adjusted girls. We talk about home schooling Caleb from time to time. If we are still in CA when he's that age I will home school. I refuse to send him to the schools around here
