As relayed to me from Jeanne's Daughter Carmin!

Update- 8/19 8:32am EST

Late last night, mom was airlifted to Portland. We literally have NO idea what is going on as we haven't spoke with her new doctor yet. She is currently there alone.:-( That bugs me a lot. They said she'll be there for a week and then they'll bring her back because all her family and such are there.

Update- 8/19 12:30pm EST

Rod's back having CT scans... they are worried again. They pulled out the draining tube- but now the swelling seems to be picking up again.

I have NO info on my mom... and am becoming frustrated. UGH

Update- 8/19 2:30pm EST

All info on my mom is the same... back peddled a bit. She's now in OHSU and they are looking at her with fresh eyes and planning how to put her back together again.

Big news for Rod. They were worried there for a bit as they couldn't wake him up when they thought he should be... thus they took him back for CT scans- but everything is looking GREAT! Thus, they are trying to wake him up for what the doctors call- one hell of a good sleep. :0) Now, everyone is talking and joking about with him... hoping to entice him awake. The ball's in his court now.

Update 8/20: 4:30 pm

Happy 53rd Birthday Rod! :0) Glad he made it!

His status is looking good. His body has put itself to sleep and they are waiting for him to wake up. It has been past the critical phase, it seems, and now we just wait until his body is ready to wake up fully. It could be days, weeks or months. We are praying for days. :0) He does have a fractured hip- but that is going to heal up. Him being asleep only helps him to heal quicker and better! However, it would be nice if he woke up today for his birthday... but, he's probably staying asleep to avoid the whole thing. He's not a big birthday fan.

Mom's looking better. They have been waking her up to check her mental status and she's going to be great. She isn't awake enough to know what is going on- but she's responsive. They are still not anticipating her to wake fully until next week. Hopefully, just in time for me to get there. :0) Good planning on my part!

I spoke extensively with her doctors today. She will have her first big surgery tomorrow morning where they plan to plate the front of her pelvis. Then, she will go back in to surgery on Monday (no time yet) and they will be fixing the back. They actually plan to fuse the bottom of her spine to the top of the pelvis... giving them a solid and stable surface in which to connect everything together.

Her ankle is the least of her worries, but is still in need of repair. Right now, she is under the best circumstances for letting it heal- since she isn't moving or fussing with it... if need be, however, there is still the possibility of them having to fuse it.

Currently, her biggest obstacle is her butt. :0) She's going to love this! and we shall forever get to remind her that her butt was a problem! lol When she first arrived at St. Charles, she had internal bleeding. They had to immobilize some of her veins and arteries to control the bleeding. This resulted in a slowage of the blood flow to her back end. Not too big of a deal- until they have to work in that area for the second surgery. :0) The lack of adequate blood flow is going to make healing slow... and the doctor is working hard to overcome this concern.

At this point she is under the best care. She has a trauma team that knows what it is doing. :0) She has a trauma pelvic surgeon, whose job is specifically dealing with bad pelvic damage. She also has a spine surgeon working on the fusing and a foot/ankle specialist on tap for her foot!

All is looking good at this point. :0)

Update: August 21, 8:00pm EST

Rod has been moved out of the ICU and to his own room. He is still in his self induced coma... but all is hopeful still and looking good. :0)

My mom is in surgery now. They expect it to be at least 6 hours. So I won't hear anything until late tonight. I will update when I hear from them.

Update: August 22, 5:30 am EST

My mom's surgery didn't go as planned- again. Apparently when she was in Bend, they decided to suture up part of her abdomen. Less open was better. However, they had to open some more of it up for this big surgery and they found a collection of fluid and puss.

Which means they couldn't do anything with the bones, because they didn't want the infection to spread. They did a few hours worth of stuff and cleaned her out... but she is going to have to go in again.

I'll know more tomorrow.

I can only imagine how frustrating it is for them to not have any answers or to be able to be there with her. Sending prayers and postive energy their way.
