There are signs up around the nieghborhood for a lost cat so when I saw a cat that looked like it could be the one I tried to pick it up. It scratched and bit the heck out of my left hand and I had to go to the doctor and get a prescription for antib...iotics. They didn't feel the rabies shots were needed because I guess there havn't been any cat or dog rabbies cases in years, or so the er doc says.

I have owned so many cats I have lost count. Its well over 100.  Most were outside cats. I did let them in but they preferred to be outside.  I live in a very rural area.   Cats CAN find their way home.  No need to look for them.   If they are not hurt or sick they will come home, sometimes leave for up to two weeks.   I did FIX every cat of mine.  This did shorten their territories and they tended to come home faster this way.

Some that would disappear for a week or so would come home sick. Cats tend to hide in holes or burrow under sheds, little cave like shelters and stay there to mend themselves.   Some die if they are too sick.  Some decide to get back home and you are able to get them to a vet for help.

If a cat does not want to be found, you won't find it.
