Hello, my name is Karen,

I have a beautiful daughter named Brianna Leigh and is my little angel. She has a twin brother, and 2 older sisters.  Born on April 9, 2007, because she was a twin she was a preemie born  5 weeks early.

I did not know she had Down Syndrome until she was born. When they brought her over to show me I could see she had Down syndrome. Because I was of advanced maternal age, I had read alot about Down syndrome and other risks of being an older mom. So I felt prepared in case God choose me to be blessed with one of his angels.

She had to stay in the hospital for 4 weeks, and was on oxygen, also she was hooked up to a heart monitor. We found out when she was 2 weeks old that she had 2 holes in her heart. She couldn't take a bottle anymore and was tube feed. I felt so bad for her, because she was doing well with the bottle, but it was to much work for her to do it.

On May 4, 2007, I got to bring her home to be back with her twin brother. She came home on a heart monitor, and we had to learn how to put the NG tube down her nose to bolus feed her. At 3 1/2 months old she had open heart surgery to have a VSD and a ASD repaired, I was very surprised how quickly she recovered from that, she only stayed in the hospital for 4 days

She started to have some trouble with her feeds. She threw almost all of it back up. At 6 months she had a button put in her belly, well she was still throwing up real bad and not thriving at all, she was losing weight instead of gaining it. So we choose to have her put on a continuous feeding pump and saw a big difference right away.

Shes been doing so great since then. She did have a few more surgeries, tubes in her ears, and her gallbladder removed. She started walking at 18 months, and is so excited she can keep up with her brother now. She now only has to be on her feeding pump at night while she sleeps because she will eat table food during the day.

She has been through alot in her 2 yrs of life, but she is a strong little girl, and I feel so blessed that shes my daughter. I have a song I dedicate to her, it's called " Angels Lullaby" by Reba.

I sing it to her all the time, I can never finish it with out starting to cry though, but then again I'm a very emotional person. Here's my baby girl today. Brianna the light of my life, and I certainly couldn't imagine it without her.

This story made me cry. She is absolutely beautiful, and you are lucky to have eachother. I want a daughter with special needs, because I know a lot of parents who give up their children if they come out special. I think they are amazing and a gift.
