Well, really DH made me sad by making tea for himself only. But I'll start at the beginning.
I don't actually have to go back to school until next Wednesday, but I've had a nice, long summer, so I thought I'd better start easing myself back into things. So I went to spend a couple hours this morning cleaning my classroom and making sure things are in order. First, the office was busy, so it took me 1/2 hour or so to get my keys checked out to me - classroom key, elevator key, and remote control for parking. I had stuff in my hands and Wesley to watch so I didn't stop and put the keys on my keyring right away. Mistake #1.
Went to the classroom and set the keys on my desk. Mistake #2.
I was rearranging things and cleaning furniture...spend a good hour or so turning around the computer desks to the way I like them and hooking the computers back up. During this time, Wesley was occupying himself, following me around, wiping the chairs and desks off, and I saw that he was carrying one of my keys. He likes keys, and he was happy and occupied so I could be productive, so I didn't go and take the key back from him. Mistake #3.
When I started to get hungry I decided we would leave and come back tomorrow. Went to gather our things..."Where is my key, Wesley?" "I don't know". We went around the whole room for an hour, checked every chair, looked in every desk, inspected every area that Wesley had been to. When I asked him if he put the key a certain place, his answer was "yes" everytime. When I asked him where he put the key, he said "under the computer". He even pointed. But I lifted every computer, keyboard, mouse and mousepad, and still didn't find it. "Show me where you put the key, Wesley." He pointed to the computer he was playing games on for a while and said again "under the computer." I pointed to the bottom of the computer "under there?" "yes" Then I pointed at the CD Rom drive under the monitor (these are old, old Macs) and said "or in here?" and he said "yes" "Did you push it all the way in?" "Yes." Uh-oh.
So, I poked about a bit, but can't even tell if it's really in there, so we left and came home, saying to the office staff that we've lost the key in the classroom and will need to be let in tomorrow. I posted on Facebook to some Mac-savvy friends, and will try again tomorrow to get at the key. Then I slept for 2 hours while Wesley wasn't napping in his room, because I just didn't know what else to do. I'm just so upset and annoyed with myself, and worried too that the principal may make me pay for rekeying the lock (even though the key is hardly a security threat where it is now). I'm not as worried about damaging the CD drive, since we never use it anyway, but I am worried about breaking the computer since I know it won't be replaced and I already have only 5 of them.
The kicker is this... DH came home from work in a bad mood, and even though I told him about my terrible day, he has done little to make me feel better and much to make me feel worse. I even told him how I've been feeling that I need a cup of tea all afternoon, but haven't remembered to see it through...so tonight, when I come back out to the living room from putting Wesley to bed, he's making a cup of tea - FOR HIMSELF!!! He wouldn't even have thought of making a cup of tea if I hadn't been talking about it, and then he goes and makes a cup for himself, without a single thought of me! I almost cried, but he didn't notice.
Thanks for reading.
Comments:
I did! I actually did some research, got some advice from a couple of friends, and opened up the computer yesterday to retrieve the key! It wasn't that far in so I didn't have to take too much apart in order to get it. It is a HUGE relief!
