Pick My Brain If You dare

Venture into my crazy life w/ 2 boys!

So many of you know I do animal rescue. be it a abuse adult or abandon/orphan fur baby. I've done squirrels, opossums,rabbits, puppies, kittens, ect. I've been doing this since I was 8 years old. Since then moving out and doing it on my own I've lost only 3 kittens, who were very sick on on numerous medications. I have a really good record for saving kittens so if any trolls want to leave a comment on here saying it's my fault and I don't know what I'm doing consider yourself given a screw you on my behalf, you will be blocked, ignored, and deleted. Now here's their story.

I recently received a phone call that someone had left kittens in a box, in direct sunlight, on a woman's door step. they were about a week or two older. Very tiny, no teeth, and only 2 had their eyes opened yet. I said I would take them, like I'd turn the babies down *lol*! They got here, their little bodies were hot and they were very quite. If I picked them up they'd meow a little. Right away I began giving them I.V. fluids under their skin every 1/2 hour and force feeding them a mixture of kitten formula and pedialyte every 1/2 hour.

Here's a picture that shows how tiny they were,

This was taken a few days after I got them they were even smaller before!

So anyway, I continues to feed them. When I bathed them the next day I discover the poor things were SUNBURNT!!! Due to whatever jackass had left them in the sun. Two of them even had burn blisters on them, God knows how long they had been left out their! I got up every 1/2 all night for a week and every time I went anywhere they came with me so i could feed them. It was about 3-4 days before the poor dehydrated babies even had enough in them to pee and over a week before they pooped. When they did poop the first couple days the were hard little pebbles then it went to normal poop. I brought them to the vet to make I was missing anything, she said I wasn't and it was just due to dehydration. They weighed less then a pound at the time the vet weighed them. It was about 5 days before they started crying to be fed...normally they cry to be fed from birth but they were really weak. When they did it was cute. Everyone would be talking and they wouldn't make a peep, as soon as I spoke they knew that was their mama's voice and they started screaming to be fed *LOL*! So soon their skin that had been red and burnt started to peel and the underneath layer began to heal. They were eating like little piggies, they were slowly wobble walking, purring after a meal, and cuddling. But no matter how much they ate they stayed bony. I got high calorie paste for kittens to add to the formula, it helped a little but not much. This continued for about 3 weeks. I fed them about 5 a.m. and went to bed. When I woke up one kitten was laying funny, oh no, he was dead. I took him out cleaned the cage and the remaining 4 kittens. they all seemed fine and I continued on. Two days later another one died during the night, this was starting to look bad. had a vet check them out, all he did was take a poop sample for worms and couldn't find any and  said sometimes a few just crash and the rest will probably be fine. I've raised 3 day old kittens and kittens that acted much sicker then this but I know it can happen so ok. The last 3 were eating fine, crying, and slowly walking. That evening they starting not crying to be fed and one of them was refusing food. Great. I stayed up with him all night, trying to force feed him, about 1 a.m. he took a turn for the worse and I knew he was going to die. So I held him and gave him comfort until he slowly passed, it was awful but I couldn't just let him die in a cage w/o his "mama". He died about 2:30 a.m. I fed the other kittens, they ate well and were walking a little. By about 6 a.m. they were doing good so I went to bed for a couple hours of sleep before the kids woke up. When i got up, crap, another one had died! i buried him with his brothers on my yard. I'm now starting to wonder if whoever dumped the kittens off at that lady's house found the mama cat dead and so they dumped the kittens at her house because they knew she liked cats. This last kitten doesn't cry to eat but will eat if you offer it to him. About 4 p.m. he started crashing. I picked him up and held him. he'd start to let a few purrs out and then would snuggle down and be quite. the wake up and purr and drift off again. About 7:30 p.m. he passed on to go to heaven to be with his brothers. I don't know why they died, distemper, something from the mama cat, or if they're organs were damaged form being cooked in the sun for such a long time the day I got them. I guess I'll never know. I just wanted to make a little memorial to them on here. Here's their pictures from happier times...

 Finally, I would like to leave you with a "poem". I'm sure you've all heard the poem "The rainbow brigde" of not please google it, it's just wonderful. This is a rescue animal version;

                                     SOMETHING DIFFERENT AT THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

Unlike most days at the Rainbow Bridge, this day dawned cold and gray. All the recent arrivals at the Bridge did not know what to think, as they had never seen such a day. But the animals who had been waiting longer for their beloved people to accompany them across the Bridge knew what was happening, and they began to gather at the pathway leading to the Bridge. Soon an elderly dog came into view, head hung low and tail dragging. He approached slowly, and though he showed no sign of injury or illness, he was in great emotional pain. Unlike the animals gathered along the pathway, he had not been restored to youth and vigor upon arriving at the Bridge. He felt out of place, and wanted only to cross over and find happiness. But as he approached the Bridge, his way was barred by an angel, who apologized and explained that the tired and broken-spirited old dog could not cross over. Only those animals accompanied by their people were allowed to cross the Bridge. Having nobody, and with nowhere else to turn, the dog trudged into the field in front of the Bridge. There he found others like himself, elderly or infirm, sad and discouraged. Unlike the other animals waiting to cross the Bridge, these animals were not running or playing. They simply were lying in the grass, staring forlornly at the pathway across the Rainbow Bridge. The old dog took his place among them, watching the pathway and waiting, yet not knowing what he was actually waiting for. One of the newer dogs at the Bridge asked a cat who had been there longer to explain what was happening. The cat replied, "Those poor animals were abandoned, turned away, or left at rescue places, but never found a home on earth. They all passed on with only the love of a rescuer to comfort them. Because they had no people to love them, they have nobody to escort them across the Rainbow Bridge." The dog asked the cat, "So what will happen to those animals?" Before the cat could answer, the clouds began to part and the cold turned to bright sunshine. The cat replied, "Watch, and you will see." In the distance was a single person, and as she approached the Bridge the old, infirm and sad animals in the field were bathed in a golden light. They were all at once made young and healthy, and stood to see what their fate would be. The animals who had previously gathered at the pathway bowed their heads as the person approached. At each bowed head, the person offered a scratch or hug. One by one, the now youthful and healthy animals from the field fell into line behind the person. Together, they walked across the Rainbow Bridge to a future of happiness and unquestioned love. The dog asked the cat, "What just happened?" The cat responded, "That was a rescuer." The animals gathered along the pathway bowing in respect were those who had found their forever homes because of rescuers. They will cross over when their people arrive at the Bridge. The arrival here of a rescuer is a great and solemn event, and as a tribute they are permitted to perform one final act of rescue. They are allowed to escort all those poor animals they couldn't place on earth across the Rainbow Bridge and into Heaven." The dog thought for a moment, then said, "I like rescuers." The cat smiled and replied, "So does heaven, my friend. So does heaven."
