5. Commercial milk comes from family owned, humane, quality dairy farms. That's just not true, commercial dairy farms are nothing like this. While YOUR farm may be small, that's just not how commercial farms are run.
6. People are supposed to drink cow milk. Cow milk is for baby cows. Humans are the only species to drink milk 1 past infancy/toddler hood and 2 from another species. That's because it's not natural or healthy. An adult, even a child, human does not need milk that is designed to grow a 50 lb calf into a 300 lb cow.
7. Milk is a good source of calcium. Milk is supposedly high in calcium because cows eat calcium-rich veggies. Commercial dairy cows are fed poor diets and therefore produce poorly nutritious milk.
8. Milk is a good source of calcium. Milk may have calcium when it comes from a healthy cow, but it also has über amounts of protein that inhibit calcium absorption and even extract calcium from our bones causing osteoporosis.
9. Humans are capable of drinking milk. Lactose intolerance comes in many forms are often go unrecognized. Milk consumption, even in its healthiest form, can cause or contribute to asthma, obesity, osteoporosis, PMS, allergies, acne, diabetes, leukemia, the list goes on...
10. Cows produce too much milk to feed their young and NEED to be milked. Mammals, including cows, produce the amount of milk that fits their youngs' demand. Cows now-a-days are forced into pregnancy only to have their young taken away from them and/or fed hormones to keep up milk production. If these facts were true for you, you'd "need" to be milked on a daily basis as well.
11. Dairy is a necessary part of the human diet. There is NOTHING good in milk that can't be found in healthier plant sources. Cow milk is not necessary, soy milk is not necessary, goat, almond, oat, rice etc milks are not necessary. Nutrition comes from food!
12. People who don't drink milk are weird or uneducated. While I'm not addressing any particular post that I've seen insulting vegans or other lacto-free people, the truth remains that some people do get down right nasty about veganism and people who avoid milk. There's no need for it, really, and it's something I'll never understand. In no way, shape, or form does my lifestyle insult, threaten or otherwise infringe on anyone else, so I'll just never know where all the hate comes from.
For great, educational reading, pick up a copy of The China Study. The author grew up on a farm and dedicated his professional life as well respected scientist to saving the world by bringing third world, malnourished countries meat and milk. This brought him unexpected observations and lead him to conduct multiple scientific tests on the effects of milk and meat on our health. He was then asked by a collegue to ignore his findings, but his conscious instead lead him to write this book. It's ever so eyeopening. (There are also lots of other books and websites full of info.)

Comments:
I have not drank milk since I was in 2nd grade. I am not vegan, but now that I have been learning more for my kids' health, I am ready to cut milk out of their diets also. DH is not convinced. I read an article yesterday in a group on here that was great, but she didn't post a link. I will be back if I can find it.
I am not a baby cow either. Neither are my kids. No more cow products for us please. Our tummies dont like them. There are so many better ways to get the nutrients our bodies need than from infected cow teats. Pass the hemp milk!
Good post. Voted popular. Pass the hemp milk and I'll bring the brownies. :-)
#10 was the reason that I stopped drinking cows milk a couple of years ago. I always loved milk, so it was kind of difficult to switch to soy milk, but I am pretty used to it now. Luckily, neither of my daughters is finicky, so I had no trouble transitioning them to soy.
Voted up!
Your rebuttal isn't any kind of thought provoking, Tes. Do you have any original words to back up your disapproving sweetpea?
Actually, I'm very open to intelligent debate and conversation. I love learning, and sharing information is a great way to do that.

Love it!
I was just pondering #6 this morning. It is beyond me why more people don't make that connection.
