On Thursday morning (8-27-09) I was on way way to work in the pouring down rain. The main highway used to get in and out of the little town I live in is called 23rd Street. They have been re-tarring 23rd street and had just been pouring fresh oil down the day before the heavy rain. So as you can imagine Heaving rain+New Oil= an ice skating rink. I was driving a good distance from the SUV in front of me naturally also aware of the road conditions and my need for stopping space. I was on the down hill side of the bridge when the SUV in front of me braked suddenly and swerved to miss the person in front of her as I automatically braked suddenly. Instead of stopping my wheel locked and I couldn't swerve I continued to slide right into the car in front of me I would guess 40MPH or less. Due to my cautious driving in the first place I had sliding room just not quit enough once I did reach the ladies SUV in front of me. My back and Neck which was previously injured 2 years ago in an automobile accident (Where I was rear ended at 55 MPH) started searing with pain. It hurt to move much less get out of my car. So from what I could see the ladies SUV spare tire holder looked to be the only dented thing on her vehicle.
She got out walked around her vehicle got back in, I had an anxiety attack after I realized what happened and called 911. The police saw very clearly that I was not tailing her and that it was the road conditions that caused the accident. So he took both of our information and gave us both a copy and that was it. No ticket was issued or anything. Due to my pre-existing back and neck conditions they called the ambulance to take me to the ER. My husband followed me in and they did the immediate assessment of my back and neck to be sure nothing was broken. The DR saw I had severe neck and back strain causing ligaments and such to tare in my back. This accident I SAW coming so I know I was tensed up ready for the impact. In the hospital they gave me Vicodin, and Flexeril to help my muscles loosen up for me to walk with out pain.
The medicine caused me to sleep most the rest of the day. I ate a good dinner that evening and took more pain medicine before bed that night. The next morning (Yesterday I awoke to a serious Migraine. I HAD THE WORST MIGRAINE IVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!!! That says A LOT because I have migraine pain every other day normally. NOTHING helped, my migraine medicine didn't help, ice did not help, every square inch of sound felt like someone just hit me over the head repeatedly with a frying pan. I coped with it most all day then the afternoon came and I broke down bawling. I could NOT take the pain any longer it was that severe. The nausea turned into repeated vomiting. The pounding worsened every time I leaned forward to try to throw up or to actually throw up. I hadn't eaton all day long, my husband thinks I had to many pain pills with no food and no water causing me to be violently ill.The strange thing was I ran fever through out the day. My husband did such a good job seeing after me and walking me back and fourth to the restroom while vomiting. He was a real trooper. I finally tried eating soup late last night and half a glass of water then 5 minutes later it came back up. It was terrible.
I don't know if it was all the narcotics the DR had me on plus not eating or what. But I finally woke up 5am this morning feeling able to walk to the restroom alone for the first time. I took a shower and did get a little over heated. But my husband got me out and on the couch where I ate a full bowl of soup and almost a whole glass of water. My headache was a dull ache so I took just some plain extra strength tylenol and went back to sleep. I just woke up-my head feels better and I'm starving for the first time in days. Although I still feel as though I've been hit by a train. Here are some pics of the aftermath of my car accident:
