I just recently learned how to knit and knit my niece a blanket for her birthday. Well I thought I'd be creative and use a stockinette stitch...naturally the edges started to curl and someone told me that I would have to either take it out and start again or add a border. Well I was too far gone to take it out and start again, so I figured I'd add a border.
So this morning I went online to see if I could find a tutorial on how to add a border. I found lots of stuff about it but none of it was really helpful. The one thing I kept seeing was something called a "pick up stitch" where you knit the border directly onto the blanket...but I think they were using circular needles and I only have the straight kind (five sets all different sizes).
So now I'm at a loss...can I knit something similar to a scarf (using a garter stitch) and sew it to the blanket or is there a different way?
Any help would be great :)
