Let's see where do I start???? The PTA at Kenny's school isn 't very big, really their are about 10 of us that do 99% of the work. And last year they needed someone to be secretary for this year, and I said sure, ok. We started the year with no treasurer, we have one now finally, thank God!!!! That should lighten me up a bit. So I have been going nuts with all of that. Not mention that I am also the liason between Kenny's school's PTA and SEPTA-I am proud member of the first Special Ed PTA in the state of Missouri.
Then this week has been the bi-annual kid's consignment sale-I put things that the kids have outgrown in it, then use that money to get them clothes that do fit them now. So I have been getting ready for that, getting it all on hangers and tagged etc. So far I am AHEAD about $150, probably because I was able to sell both a crib, and a 2 seater stroller this time around. So that is all done for now.
Then you add that Tim was able to do something that he has been waiting 6 1/2 years for, since he heard the words "it's a boy" when Kenny was born, he signed Kenny up to play Mighty Mites football, which is 3 nights a week. O yeah, and Robby starts bowling with A Sporting Chance..next weekend I think...I would have to look at the calendar, which by the way-I had to go buy a bigger one....because their wasn't enough writing space in my old one!!!!!! Good grief.....
Which brings me to my new part time "job". Job is in quotes, because I am not exactly getting paid to do it. But I was approached, and they need me, so I accepted. Much of my cafemom is now spent on the phone, writing letters, emails, or filling out grant applications. The group Robby plays sports with, A Sporting Chance (www.asportingchance.net) was in need of a part-time, really whatever time I can put into it, fund-raising coordinator. I love this group. I have been affiliated with them again for about a year now, but in my "previous life" when I was in college, working in different programs for people with developmental disabilities, I did a lot of work with this group. Many of our residents and clients were the same people who participate with this group. This group is unique, it accepts any athelete that is disabled or disadvantaged as long as they are over the age of 3 years. Their is no upper age limit. We get a lot of refferals from DCF, for families where parents are trying to get their kids back, we have many of them participating in our programs, a lot of foster kids participate in our programs, and of course disabled kiddo's and adults-any disability for any reason, we even have nursing home residents in our programs. A lot of kids with learning disabilities struggle in participating regular sports programs, they are welcome here, blind, deaf, autism, doesn't matter, if you have an IEP or 504 plan you are accepted. And like the rest of us the economy is hitting them hard too, and how could I say no. If they don't raise funds they are going to have to cut programs, and that can not happen!!!! I won't let it!!!!!!
