I've been away from CafeMom way too long. Boy have there been some changes... My last journal entry was about my hubby deploying. Well he is still deployed but due back in 2 months. A lot has gone on during this time and I'd like to share it with ya'll in hopes of it doing some good to other military wives.... here it goes.
I have a history of substance abuse and alcoholism. With that being said, not too long after my hubby left, I started drinking and using again, along with making some of the worst decisions in a long time. I must say that I only stayed in that rut for a couple months before I realized that I needed help. So I got it. I'm proud to say that I've been clean since April 13... isn't long but long enough and I'm still sober. I've met a lot of cool people along the way and have gotten back on what I believe is my right path with my Higher Power whom I choose to call God.
I'm more involved than ever before and I keep myself busy with people that understand where I came from and respect where I am going. Just wanted to share a little bit about the trials, tribulations and struggles I've have during the duration of this deployment. Now, after seeing a doctor, getting meds, doing counseling, etc., I am trying to prepare for the return of my wonderful husband who has stuck by me the entire time, even from a different side of the world!

congratulations on your sobriety! after helping a frien go through treatment twice for heroin abuse, i know how hard it can be to stay clean. i'm so glad you have a supportive husband, and that you'll get to see him soon! good luck with everything!
You are a very strong person to see for yourself that there was a problem & to be smart enough to fix it! So many others have to hit rock bottom many times before excepting that they might have a problem. Congrats on getting clean!! Don't let this hold you back! Deployment is so tough on us all. You just never know how it is going to affect you. Thank God you have a wonderful, understanding, loving man who sees the REAL you to know that YOU are so very worth it! Hang in there girlie! The best is yet to come! ((HUGS))
