This thurs is Lilys transition meeting because she turns 3 oct 16th and the teacher she is going to have for pre school will be here ,what questions should I be asking and what types of services are usually availible in pre school ? Its a preschool run by our school district and it is inside a elementary school so should they have the speech and other therapies availible ? I have put 4 NT kids through pre school but sending lily makes me so nervous since she has very little language and wont be able to tell me how shes treated or anything about her day ,hopefully I will be able to find out the days and hours we are looking at ect .

I have been there and with the same school district. Will she be in Mr. Stengels class? He is wonderful. Kayde started at 18 months with the district. She went into the infant program then moved on to preschool. I was sad when we had to leave Lakeside and then wound up in San Diego Unified. Definitely a nightmare, so this is why Kayde is homeschooled. Anyways, to get back to you...lol. Ask about transportation, what they will require of Lily. How many other kids will be in her class, how many aides does the teacher have to assist them. Make sure you listen real carefully when they do her IEP!!! If you want something ask for it. Id you dont get it then dont sign the IEP, Lakeside was really good about making sure Kayde got what I asked for. She will be given servises like OT,PT and speech, HOWEVER, it may only be an hour a week. If this is what she is getting now great, but if not then you may have to substitute her sppech through her medical. The schools can only provide a certain amount of hours a month. Make sure you get a list of what you need to send with Lily every day to school. Remember she doesnt have to go 5 days a week. If you think this is too much for her then cut it back. You are her mom, and you are in charge of her education. If she does have Mr. Stengel then he will do monthly home visits to go over Lilys progress and update you. If at any time you think Lily needs something extra then aske for another IEP. I know Moms who have them once a month. I think I covered everything but if you have any questions don't hesitiate to ask. I have been through all of this and will help you any way I can.

Robby gets 60 minutes of each therapy-ot, slp, and pt.  I am sure Lily will love school.  I was scared to send Robby, broke my heart when he started crying when I handed him off to his teacher....but that afternoon he threw a fit when his teacher handed him off to daddy!!!  That is how you will know what she thinks of school.  She will tell you...just not the same way the others did.

My son gets OT, PT, and Speech through school.  I also take him to a hospital for extra PT and speech.  The school provided a 1 on 1 aide for him to help him with his walking and eating.

Right now we get 1 hour of ot and 1 hour of speech at childrens ,and then we get 1 hour of ot and one hour of pt from ccs ,and then 12 hours of ABA at home which I am told will continue until she is 6 years old ,I want her to get what she can from school that way she has free time at home to just be a kid
