Health Tip: If You Smoke While Pregnant
(HealthDay News) -- If you smoke while pregnant, you're exposing the baby to a host of dangerous chemicals, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists says. And the nicotine in tobacco causes less oxygen and nutrients to reach the baby.
The ACOG says these problems are more likely to affect pregnant women who smoke:
- Ectopic pregnancy, where the fertilized egg begins to develop outside the uterus.
- Vaginal bleeding.
- Abnormalities in how the placenta attaches to the uterus.
- A stillbirth.
- A low-birthweight infant, born weighing less than 5.5 pounds.

Thank you for posting this! My MIL smoked while she was pregnant with my DH and he still suffers from lung problems. He's never so much as put a cigarette to his lips.
I wish more people belived this...I'm constantly hearing "it's too HARD! WAHHHH! I smoked and my kids are fine...blah blah" It drives me crazy. At least they could admit it's bad.
my sil just had her 5 child and smoked with all of them her heaviest child was 5lbs 14oz and her longest child was only17 inches!!! thanks for posting
I really thought that this was common sense, but I guess that it's not. It's sad that women will smoke while pregnant.
I love the "My kid is fine" argument. As if the fact that your kid is alive means that it's ok. Stupid people.

Wow, I didn't realize all those risks were associated with smoking while pregnant.
