Day Three.

B is tired.  He doesn't really want to go to school.  He doesn't cry about it and seems to have fun while he's there.  I have noticed a regression in his communication.  I thought it was just me... until Hubby mentioned that last night he had issues with B's communication and extensive Echolalia is back with full force.

Noon - I got a call from the Preschool Director.  She wants to shorten B's day so that he is only at school for 2 hours.  It seems he "can't focus" after 11am.  What would he miss?  Lunch and playground.  What are the most social times of the preschooler's day?  Lunch and playground.  Why do I send B to preschool?  Social skills.

The whole "Letter of the week" skill for a child who is reading on a second grade level is not the reason my child goes to preschool.  The HOPE that each child can count to 30 by the end of the year (with little assistance) is not the reason my child who is counting to at least 100 and doing first grade math is in preschool.  I send him so that he can learn to interact with his peers.  This is the part they want to temporarily take away.  Just until he adjusts.  HOW THE HECK IS HE GOING TO ADJUST TO AN EXPERIENCE HE IS NOT HAVING?

The plan.

Tomorrow is Friday, Sept 11.  We are staying home.  Correction:  I am spending time with my child to get his language back on track to where it was 4 days ago.  This may not include staying home.  :)  But we are not going to preschool. We may go to the playground, the mall, or play with some friends.  It will not be overwhelming.  We will recover.

Monday B will go to school for his abbreviated two hours.  I will pick him up at 11am.  I have requested a conference with his teacher at the end of her school day at 12:30.  Paul is planning to attend the parent-teacher conference.  The goal is to work out a plan to make preschool work.  If Monday's meeting is an epic fail (as I suspect it will be) I think I will broach the subject of home school again.
