Ok, once again, while browsing through the answers section, i ran across idiocy. There was a girl wanting to know if there were any "old fashioned" moms out there like her that bottle fed, didn't use organic food, and thought grandma knew more than the drs. Granted, the girl was fairly young (23) but really?
I am by NO MEANS a breastfeeding nazi, but bottle feeding is a pretty modern concept. Women have been breast feeding their kids since creation, so IMO that's the "old fashioned" way. Especially considering formula and bottle feeding didn't become the "norm" until the mid 1900's. I guess it just blew my mind that there was someone out there who really thought that BF'ing is a new concept...like someone, a few years ago, went "hey my boobs have a milky substance in them...I wonder if my new born can eat it?"
Ok...now, I understand the the "organic" craze is pretty new. But you must understand that there was a time where EVERYTHING was organic...there was no such thing as processed food the way we know it. Processing food meant getting it ready for winter storage. Processed food (non-organic) is a very modern thing, just like bottle feeding. Read a history book.
And this is my FAVE!!! Grandma knows more than the drs. Ummm..k. I get that sometimes the older generations have wonderful advice, and even some have great home remedies. But there are also things that were widely accepted by grandma's generation that can harm a child. While listening to what grandma says can be beneficial at times, unless granny went to medical school...she does not know more than the drs. Sorry.
I know today I'm hormonal, but it seems the collective intelligence level of our upcoming generations goes down considerably with each one.

Well I agree and disagree my dd had colic as did my oldest and all of the elders in my family even my mother said that catnip was the best thing to help ease the pain and thats what I did and it did work for my oldest I could not find any for my youngest so we had to settle for something called gripe water,it worked just as well, back in the old days women had to use what they had to "doctor' their babies so I trust pretty much the remedies they used then some doctors remedies today.
