Every 9 seconds, a woman is battered in the U.S.
Family Violence Prevention Fund, 1994.
50% of all women murdered in the United States are killed by a spouse or an acquaintance.
Journal of Trauma, 1992
90% of battered women reported that their children were present when they were beaten.
National Crime Statistics Report, 1993.
Battering is the single major cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44 in the U.S., which is more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined.
The sad fact is that even when a woman escapes her abuser many times this is not the end. Many women will experience long term effects in the form of anxiety , depression, iritability and sleep disturbances , others may experience physical symptoms such as headaches , stomach problems or chest pains. May women will feel isolated and alone , have addiction problems or even become suicidal. In some cases these issues may even fool the women into thinking they were better off with their abusers.
These are all symptoms of Post Tramatic Stress!
