O.K HERE IS MY PROBLEM. MY 10 YR. OLD DAUGHTER HAS NOT BEEN DOING HER HOMEWORK OR TURNING IT IN AT SCHOOL. SO HER TEACHER CONTACTED ME TO LET ME KNOW. THEN ASK IF IT WAS ALL RIGHT FOR HER TO STAY AFTER TO SCHOOL FOR AN AFTER SCHOOL DETETION, WHICH WAS FINE WITH ME. WE THOUGHT MAYBE IT WOULD SCARE HER. THEN OF COURSE I GROUNDED HER. AND SHE COMES HOME FROM SCHOOL AND DOES HER HOMEWORK FIRST THING. WELL GUESS WHAT SHE'S BACK TO NOT BRINGING IT ALL HOME AGAIN. AND SHE IS STILL GROUNDED. SO EVIDENTALLY THE GORUNDING IS NOT GOOD ENUFF PUNSHIMENT. SO ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT TO DO ?  PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU WOULD DO!  THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS!

I would establish DAILY communication with the teacher...my son keeps an agenda (all of the kids in his class do).  I initial it everyday and so does his teacher.  I'm not sure how old your daughter is, but it has been a great tool for TEACHING responsibility.

I thinks that its also important to establish a consequence that you use every single time that is directly related to the problem.  For example, my guy doesn't have issues turning in assignments, but he does have issues with hurrying through and being messy.  EVERY time he brings home a messy paper, he rewrites it for me.  This has really worked and now he rarely brings home a messy paper.

Just my  2 cents, I hope it helps...good luck, being a mom can be so tough!

We went through this with my SS13.  For a few years.  This year has gone better so far.

Basically, I made it a point to get ahold of the teachers, at LEAST once a week, if not every day.

AND he had to sit at the desk and do homework for at LEAST an hour (he was in middle school when this started).  Even if he said he had NO homework, he still had to sit there.  If he brought home NOTHING to do, I gave him a book and expected him to start on a report.  Characters, settings, summary, everything.  And made sure it was NOT an enjoyable book.  Like Anne of Green Gables.  Something I knew he wouldn't enjoy, or be able to bluff his way through.

So, this year, he's been good about it.  But I did find, he HATED doing work for me, and would at least bring home a book.  Even if he did nothing but STARE at it the whole time, that was up to him.  But eventually he got bored, and started doing everything...well, most of it...
