I'm 38 weeks along! This baby will be here soon!
My belly measures about 43 inches around.
Today, I'm not feeling 100% because I have a mix of a cold (brought home by my son from school, ugh!) and allergies. I've always had bad allergies and have been off all medication. So far this is the first time it's been affecting me, probably because of the cold. I just hope I get over it quickly!
Things have sort of gone downhill a little bit for me. My glucose results came back with a bad outcome. I'm technically a gestational diabetic according to the medical community. My midwife doesn't feel comfortable having the baby at home now because of possible complications after the baby is born. We should be fine through labor and delivery but once the baby isn't receiving blood via the placenta then the baby could possibly have a blood sugar crash and need resuscitation. The baby may also have breathing problems. I say "may have problems" because we just don't know if the baby will or won't. We are hoping for the best outcome being that the baby needs no help whatsoever after birth and we'll all be fine & happy! BUT we just don't know... and that's the hardest part of it all.
So all the planning we've done to have the baby at home (at my parent's house) won't be happening. I now have a few short weeks to find a doctor (which won't be too difficult with my midwife's help) and plan for a hospital birth. I was really hoping to avoid the hospital but if there really is an emergency we want to be there instead of having to transport. The plan so far is to labor at home as long as possible and when I'm 5 or 6 centimeters we'll go to the hospital. I still want to have a VBAC and I'll have a great chance with my midwifes help once we arrive at the hospital.
So that is the basic update! I'm still sewing stuff for the baby but I've slowed down because I'm nearly done. We are all excited to have this baby come! Wish us luck...
Heather

Girl you are small for 38 weeks, I will be 34 tomorrow and measuring 47 inches around. LOL. Man you make me feel like a cow, lol. Sorry you wont get to have baby at home but glad you are deciding to go to the hospital to have it and make sure everything is good for baby and not doing just what you want, not that I thought you would do that. LOL. Ok hope that didnt come out as mean as it sounds in my head. LOL. Hope everything works out great for you and baby and hugs lots and lots of hugs to make you feel better.
LOL Jonie... it's ok it didn't sound mean to me. :)
This baby will be about 2 lbs smaller then my 1st, so I'm definately lots smaller then I thought I'd be too!

I'm sorry that your hope for a home birth is no longer an option! However, being 38 weeks is so exciting! I hope the best for you and your baby =-)
