Ryan and Luke had comprehensive bloodwork done last week, to determine vitamin and mineral deficiencies. I got Ryan's results in the mail yesterday. He is low on copper, on the very low end
of normal for magnesium, zinc and vitamin D. This amazes me because he
gets plenty of zinc in his multi and this summer I actually had to give
him extra to resolve a bout of alopecia areata (spotting hair loss). This is an auto-immune problem, probably very closely related to lack of zinc and copper. It is also probably related to his mild gluten allergy. Celiacs tend not to absorb copper. Ryan is not officially a celiac, but does have mild problems with gluten.
So we'll be increasing those 4 items in his supplementation. Eagerly awaiting Luke's results, as they had the test done on the same day. I bet Luke's will be a bit worse than Ryan's, because he's got a lot more problems controlling himself.

That's great Eileen! Let us know how you make out with the supplements.
I wonder if there is an underlying cause as to why they don't have enough, or aren't absorbing those minerals.
