Work At Home JOBS??? What's it really like?

So many people want to work from home.  Wanting to work from home isn't just about being home for the kids.  It's about what fits YOUR life.  And I'm sorry, but someone else telling me when to be at work, what time to eat lunch, how many times I can be out sick - like who decides that stuff?  Don't these people have a life?  You are busy working for THEM so THEY can have a flexible schedule, lunch out with "clients" or even nice vacations with THEIR families.

You will spend so much time and effort working at your J-O-B (Just Over Broke) trying to move up in rank, get a promotion so that you can have the time and the money to do the things YOU want to do - and then guess what?  You're the BOSS that you can't stand - doing exactly what your boss did to YOU.  There's only room at the top of the food chain for a "few" who make it there.  The rest of us are stuck at the bottom of the food chain - working our tails off for what?  MAYBE a retirement fund that we MIGHT be able to live off of? 

Well, I don't know about you, but I'm sick of that rat race especially since I became a mom.  Don't get me wrong, I finished school, earned my degree to have a "career" but then I got married, and had a family and THIS is where I want to be.  I don't get to live these moments over again.  I don't get to see my child learn to walk AGAIN if I missed it while I was pushing paper for someone who was already on vacation with THEIR kids.  I don't get to hear those first words again, or play games or share new things AGAIN.  If I'm not there - I miss it.

So many people are searching for a work at home JOB - okay let me ask you this?  What do you think is so different about having a JOB at home?  You are still tied to the boss.  You might have to log into the system for calls, or be tracked on the computer for when you are working.  You still have to adhere to what someone else is dictating. So what are you saving yourself?  A commute? 

Listen, if there were all these "work at home JOBS" that paid by the hour and offered benefits and such, don't you think that MOST PEOPLE WOULD BE WORKING FROM HOME?  What would be the point of having to go into an office then? 

Here are some things that maybe your BOSS doesn't want you to know about working from home and being your OWN BOSS:

1.  There are HUGE TAX ADVANTAGES.  So many things you use everyday like your internet, your phone, your CAR, paper, pencils, even band-aids can be a tax deduction.  So does your spouse work?  You can deduct these things off your total household income and fall into a lower tax bracket.  (Check with your tax advisor on state specifics).

2.  You perform better in your own environment.  I don't know about you, but I HATE to get dressed up even in casual business wear.  I LOVE being home, in my own environment where I can play my music, wear my slippers, and leave my desk for another cup of coffee as often as I like!  A relaxed environment produces a more productive day!

3. You actually CUT expenses. No more day care expenses, you save on gas because you no longer commute, dry cleaning and eating out are no longer sucking up your paycheck.  What do you REALLY have left over when you are done subtracting all that you are working for? Go ahead and deduct the childcare, the fuel, the car maintenance, the dry cleaning, the eating out because you have no time for lunch or dinner preparation, office gifts, clothes you HAVE to wear...so a $20,000 a year job for a 2nd income as a working spouse really brings you home less than $8,000 per year - did you know that?  On average that is. 

So how does working 40 hours a week and missing your kids sound for just a measly $8,000 per year?  Oh and by the way - you're going to have to pay tax on the whole $20,000 you know because that's your salary.

Me?  I prefer working my own business from home.  I'm my own boss, I wear what I want, listen to what I want, work when I want, how I want and I'm here for those moments that only happen once.  I deduct thousands off my husband's & my income every year for running a business out of our homes and I LOVE EVERY SECOND OF IT.  Do I work?  Of course I do - anyone who wants success WORKS for it.  But the rewards are immeasurable......
